Achievement Day Program and Tea at Stromsburg High
The Achievement Day program and tea was held October 5 at Stromsburg High School Auditorium with strong attendance. County chairman Mrs. George Tiaden led the event as chair. The program featured group singing led by Mrs. Wilber Olson and piano by Mrs. Leroy Nelson, a piano solo by Carol Teegerstrom, and a duet by Mrs. Neal McBeth and Mrs. David Rutter with accompanist Mrs. Duane Leu. Home Agent Margaret Crosby conducted a recognition and candle lighting service as pom pom corsages were given to council officers and club presidents. Barbara Allen of Consumers Public Power demonstrated the broiler use in an electric stove. A tea and social hour followed, with serving on a chartreuse cloth and a centerpiece horn of plenty of fall fruits. Silver service and pouring were by Mrs. Tiaden and Miss Crosby. Door prizes included twelve jars of orange marmalade. attendees received favors from Stromsburg merchants and Dixie Cups from Roberts Dairy. The Stromsburg Training Centers clubs Friendly Families, Golden Rod, Jolly Workers, ONC, Stromsburg Project and Swede Home Project organized the event under group chair Mrs. Forrest Berggren.

Shelby Merchant Died on Saturday in Normal Ill
Graham Clark Moon a 51 year old Shelby merchant died Sunday at Brokaw hospital in Normal Illinois after treatment. He helped run the Moon Store with his father C. W. Moon and since his death with his brother Glen. He had been in poor health for months. Services were held Tuesday at the Shelby Wesleyan Church.

Deke Johnson Dies in Iowa After Heart Attack
L W Deke Johnson died Saturday October 3 in a Council Bluffs Iowa hospital after a heart attack. He previously ran an electrical appliance store with his wife’s clothing shop nearby in the Martha Walgreen building. He was a brother in law of A L Chantry and Joe Chantry, Osceola natives. He is survived by his widow and one daughter Christie.

Pancake Feed At Polk Draws Large Local Crowd

Harry Sterup Injured in Tractor Mishap

Polk County drivers must secure remaining driving permits in October or face violation after the month.
