A farmer laments J Frost visiting, frost damages squash pumpkin and pickle vines. Tomatoes green between dead vines, efforts shift to canning. The frost threatens spuds and overall garden yield as winter nears.
Last chance to use the community dryer is the week of Oct 13 to 20 with appointments via the Farm Bureau office. Sheep feeding expands to 700 head with 300 more planned. Frank Walker's hog herd leads at the County Fair. Polk County Fair lifts activities and reunions with returning veterans. Polk County feeders bustle as cattle and hogs move, aided by cheaper corn.
Wood was sent mourning after Mrs J C McGrew died at her Shelby home this afternoon at 1 o clock after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at the UK church in Shelby Saturday at 2 p m. Obituary to follow next week.
A H Peterson and family were guests of Benedict relatives Sunday, sharing in a family gathering and visiting at their home.
John Jaax Jr and Martha Zimmerman wed at St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek with Rev. Kunkel officiating. The couple plans a wedding trip to Denver before settling on the groom’s farm near Shelby, surrounded by family and friends.
Attendance at the Polk County Fair was good and members are urged to attend the Annual Meeting in the Court Room at Osceola on Wednesday October 13 at 1 00 pm. Officers for the coming year will be elected and admission prices set. Suggestions for improvements will be considered. The cooperative spirit aims to improve next year with collective help.
The Record explains that the auditorium program was shut down due to a misunderstanding. Musselman acted in good faith to accommodate the public, canceling the second show and offering to turn the house over, but the proposal was not accepted by the other parties.
The State Farm Bureau Federations seek a unified wage for corn huskers across several states. The agreed price will be publicized in the county once set. Those needing workers should contact the Farm Bureau office via the County Agricultural Agent.

Closing Committee announces last Wednesday night shopping this week. Osceola Banks will close on October 12 Columbus Day, with stores ending Wednesday hours thereafter.

Word arrives of the marriage of A B Nelson President of the Farmers Union to Miss Jennie Beck in Omaha last Tuesday. Nelson had been in Chappell working crops when the nuptial enterprise surprised local friends. Westfall and Dr Frank G Snyder of York reported the young man's condition is serious Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs E J Anderson died September 3 at her Stromsburg area home after convulsions following birth. Funeral at Lutheran church in Stromsburg with Rev C J Franzen sermon from Revelation 14 13. Burial in Stromsburg cemetery. She leaves husband two sons and an infant daughter, plus parents and siblings.
Devno David Jones son of Mr and Mrs Neal Jones was born August 18 1919 at Gresham Nebraska and died October 1 1920 at one year old The funeral was held October 2 1920 at Wayland Christian church with Rev C G Nelson and a Wayland choir The burial followed at Blue Ridge Cemetery

Cloyd Burns and his wife traveled from Columbus to visit his parents Mr and Mrs D C Burns and his brother Bert L Burns and wife. Cloyd now resides in Seattle and is pursuing independent manufacture of an adding machine. He has worked for years with the Remington Typewriter Company.
