A long list of residents from Stromsburg and Polk areas visit relatives and travel to nearby towns. People attend fairs, medical visits, and church events while planning spring moves and noting winter signs. several relatives and friends travel between Stromsburg, Osceola, Lincoln, Julesburg, Julesburg and Omaha.
Food Administrator Wattles returns from Washington urging immediate stop to speculation in staple goods. He outlines duties to curb abuses in marketing and to boost conservation for Nebraskans. A Polk County campaign, with a central committee, plans a week of action from October 21 to 27 and invites household pledge cards to reduce wheat and sugar use while prioritizing shipments to Allied forces.
The Nebraska pledge card drive is organized by H. R. McKelvie of Lincoln as state manager for the Food Administration. He will appoint district sub managers for congressional and senatorial districts to push a week long campaign October 21 to 28 aimed at 250 000 Nebraskans pledging to conserve food. Cards will reach every household and Nebraskans pledge to assist in cutting waste and using perishables to free more food for export. CG. Wattles and McKelvie urge universal participation.
Miss Anderson visits Miss Landry and the third grade sang for the high school last Thursday. The football team beat Central City 14 to 0 with Osceola's strong lineup. The department grades started a bank and earned deposits. Miss Walrath performed violin solos in chapel. John F Ayres and family visited relatives in David City.
Nebraska State Teachers' Association executive committee approves the program for the November 7 to 9 meeting in Omaha. Thirteen thousand preliminary programs will go to teachers. twenty-nine local meeting sites and a large local organization are ready. Miss Martha Powell predicts strong attendance amid a patriotism theme with an entertainment pageant planned for closing night.
