Polk County Sited as Ideal Cow Calf Region
The review highlights Polk County as a favorable area for cow calf operations. It notes Nebraska imports over half its feeder cattle, stimulating expansion of herd numbers. It cites rising cattle prices, growing feeder calf demand, favorable climate, producer management, and available winter labor in grain regions. An abundance of feed grain supports production.

Nebraska cow calf potential in southeast region outlined
The Southeast Nebraska section notes cow calf production could expand using existing feed resources. It cites 1971 data showing Nebraska used only 51 percent of feed grains domestically and exported 49 percent. Southeast counties produced 1.6 million acres of corn and 0.9 million acres of millet for grain, with crop residues underutilized and potential to boost cattle farming depending on residue use. Mrs Clyde Haxton visits end with Elm Creek return after a stay with son Morris Richards.
