Mrs. Ben Schmoker of Osceola is appointed chair of Polk County 1962 Christmas Seal Campaign which opens November 13 with seal mailings. The drive funds a voluntary TB program and combats other respiratory diseases to aid medical research and patient care. The 56th annual drive runs November 13 through December.

Turkey Season Opens Saturday in Pine Ridge Area
Sporting history will be made as the state's first wild turkey season opens Saturday in Pine Ridge. Merriam's turkeys, introduced in 1959, grew from 28 to a flock over 3,000. 500 hunters with permits will hunt with shotguns sized two to six and gauges 16 to 10. An upland game bird stamp is required. birds must be sealed at Harrison or Chadron courthouses or Crawford police station to avoid illegal kill charges.
