City leaders in South Dakota, Nevada, Idaho, Maryland, Arizona, California and Colorado report mood shifts as Republicans seek a possible eight vote Senate gain. The effort centers on state contests that could tilt control in Washington and redraw influence across policy debates.
Early Wednesday reports show George White conceding the Democratic National Committee chairmanship and Senator Harding nearing victory with about 275 electoral votes. Harding leads in New York and multiple states as newspapers declare a landslide, while Gov Cox and other Democrats react with cautious statements.
Miss Annie St Beaton aged 103, a Roxbury resident from the Mount Pleasant home, cast her first vote for the Republican party on Tuesday. She wore a new bonnet for the occasion and waited all her life to vote.
In a partial tally from 41 of 985 precincts across 34 districts outside Boston Cox leads with 8 628 votes reported while the tally from the remaining 33 jurisdictions remains pending.
Early returns show Harding favored by a large statewide majority potentially reaching 76,000, likely aiding the entire ticket. However Judge Wray's strength creates uncertainty for the governorship as precinct results shift toward McKelvie. Initial data: 42 precincts Harding 7,974 Cox 4,017. 45 precincts McKelvie 5,509 Morehead 4,259 Wyre 3,029.
Scattered counts from 14 Lancaster precincts to 150 Boston districts indicate Harding ahead of Cox and other rivals in early results. Votes tallied include Kentucky, Louisiana, Wyoming, Philadelphia area, and Oklahoma City among many locales. In Lancaster, Mekelvie leads Morehead in preliminary tallies.
Charles A. McCloud, Nebraska Republican chair, predicted Harding’s 75 000 plus statewide margin and vows of a full GOP victory. He forecast a Republican majority in both legislative chambers and sole election of all congressmen and the state ticket.
Lincoln Senator Warren G Harding leads Governor James M Cox by 51 355 votes as 739 precincts report. Harding 100 957 Cox 49 602 with an average 50 vote margin per precinct. If trend holds Harding could win Ohio by about 75 000 with six GOP congressmen. Other totals show McKelvie Morehead and Wray totals across 851 precincts.
Omaha NE reports a Harding landslide with a majority above 75 000 and potential total near 100 000 if current returns persist. Governor McKelvie seems set for a second term by about 10 000, while Morehead trails in Douglas County and Wray lags behind in the governor race. Republican congressmen appear all six elected as Harding’s strong national vote boosts the ticket.
In Nebraska history the Arthur county return arrived at 11 45 p m marking a first for state elections. Arthur precinct tallies show Harding 67 Cdk 39 Meck Kelvie 38 Morehead 26 and Wray 49, with three telephone lines and a telegraph wire used to transmit the results.
Senator Harding sent a telegram to Governor Calvin Coolidge praising the Republican victory and predicting a full role in the coming administration. Will Hays received Harding's message of gratitude and congratulations for Coolidge's campaign leadership.
Predictions at state committee HQ described the race as a horse race with Meceline defeated and Wray and Mores neck and neck. Mrs Sorenson refused to concede as others noted Wray’s strong showing. Democratic HQ expected McKelvie’s defeat and Harmon forecast Morehead winning by twenty to thirty thousand.
The Republican Senatorial Committee reported a net gain of eight to ten seats based on early reports. Victories were claimed in South Dakota Idaho Maryland California Nevada Oklahoma Arizona and Colorado. President Wilson's home district in Princeton reportedly favored Harding and Coolidge by about two to one.
Topeka reports partial county results with Trarding ahead of Curtis and Allen for re election. Curtis leads Todges by a wider margin than Allen over Davis as 184 precincts of 326 remain to be counted.
In Oklahoma City the national election result is unclear for the first time since statehood. Incomplete returns leave leaders unsure if Oklahoma voted Democratic or Republican.
Marion Harding, described as a tireless but joyful president-elect, wakes at his Mount Vernon Avenue home to a festive scene of neighbors, rattles, bells, drums. Mrs. Harding laughs at the late hour, saying she thought it was only ten oclock.
New York quotes Mr. White on the abandonment by prominent Republican leaders of the league of nations and the resulting public confusion. He hopes the league can be saved from political morass and says the whole people must accept whatever decision is made. The Democratic National Committee will abide by the result.
Claims by Harry M. Daugherty that Harding won every northern state and border states Maryland West Virginia Kentucky and Missouri. Vote tally from Harding home precinct shows 375 for Harding and 76 for Cox after reapportionment altered precinct lines.
Returns from Hyde Park show presidential tallies with Harding leading Cox in the Frent town results. Harding 279 Cox 194. The Hyde Park precincts beyond Boston total 6,081 for Cox and 23,677 for Harding statewide.
Early returns from 261 of 1,877 precincts show Andrew A Morrissey leading with 17,184 to Grant Martins 16,215 for the high court seat. County results could swing the outcome as more tallies come in. In the supreme court contest George A Day led 12,783 to William Dorgey 13,949 from 225 precincts.
Judge Nathan L. Miller, Republican candidate for governor, won by a substantial plurality though he trailed the national GOP ticket by about a million votes. Al Smith led Cox in New York but lost. Miller's plurality estimated between 60,000 and 100,000 with a strong socialist showing expected compared with prior elections.
Governor James M Cox, noting a landslide loss, begins analyzing the situation and preparing a formal statement. He plans to congratulate his successful opponent and issue a message, maintaining a calm, philosophical demeanor in the wake of the presidential defeat.
Kansas City shifted to the Republican column as the entire county ticket won. The victory margin is estimated at 5,000 this year, down from a 12,000 Wilson majority four years ago, marking the most unexpected political outcome in the city's history.

A. A. Dieleman, cashier at the Bank of Manville, died after a car he drove collided with a road team west of Manville. He had been hunting with F. L. Kohoda and Hobart Ward, spent darkness in snow and sleet, and the crash caused a severed horse leg, seven tumbles, and fatal skull fracture.
Arthur A. Dieleman was born in Prairie View Kansas on August 16 1886 and died in Manville Wyoming on October 22 1920 at age 34. He married Nancy Egelhoff of Osceola Nebraska on August 18 1909 and had five children. He served 13 years with the Bank of Manville. Funeral services were held Monday at the Manville Methodist church with the Masons at the cemetery.
Lawson Shaw died suddenly at 3 am after a grave illness. His son Dr L M Shaw and family mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the M E Church with Rev W W Hull. burial in Osceola cemetery. He was born Sept 22 1840 in Mercer County Illinois and survived by wife Mary E Valentine and seven grandchildren.
Reverend G. W. Stansbury plans to move from Osceola to Maxwell Nebraska soon to assume the pastorate of a large Baptist church, the largest congregation in Maxwell. He and his wife arrived in Osceola last May, contributing as a capable and hardworking minister during their year here. No details are available yet on who will fill the Osceola Baptist pulpit.

The marriage of Miss Millie Arbogast daughter of Mr and Mrs A Arbogast of Beulah to Mr Gifford I Hutchison of Silver Creek occurred yesterday afternoon at the bride's parents home in the presence of relatives and friends. The bride is a Polk County young woman well regarded in the neighborhood. Hutchison, a nephew of J G Hutchison formerly of this city, is described as an excellent young man. The Record extends congratulations and best wishes.
The Central District of the Nebraska High School Debating League announces eight member schools for its fourteenth annual competition on the immigration literacy test repeal. Members include Aurora Suttor Western York Clay Center Friend Genes Gscucota and others. Bibliographies and abstracts on the topic are being prepared under Prof. M. M. Fogg and sold at cost to underfunded libraries.

A reception will be held at the church parlor tomorrow Friday night after the service to honor Reverend G W Stansbury and his wife. All friends are invited to attend the event at the Baptist church facility.
A birthday surprise at the home of Mr Geo Engelhardt honored their son Paul on his 19th birthday. Twenty two guests enjoyed Halloween games, refreshments, and cake later as everyone departed by nightfall, reporting an excellent time.
