The governor designates November 2 as fire prevention and clean-up day urging all citizens to protect property and life through general cleaning and vigilance. The proclamation, issued October 6, 1917, emphasizes unity in defending the republic and safeguarding communities from fire.
A Nebraska State Board of Agriculture committee urges six cents per bushel as a fair husking price for corn this fall. The panel suggests machine unloading, and board, lodging, or team provisions with extra allowances if no machine unloading is provided. The report cites leaders such as George Coupland and T. P. Reynolds and calls on Nebraskans to promote the six cent price through public opinion.
