Shelby Post Office Safe Blown Open and Fire Destroys Opera House Block
Last Tuesday night the Shelby Post Office safe was blown open and retired. The fire, caused by the explosion, destroyed the Opera House block and crushed W. E. Kinney's building. Hardware and flour store stocks along with Frank Brigham's general merchandise suffered heavy losses. The Sun Office and books were destroyed, as were contents of one or two upper offices. Total loss estimated at 20 000 dollars with insurance under half. No insurance on Sun Office drug stock or the Opera House. No robbers found.
