Rural Youth Square Dancing Meeting in Stromsburg
The Rural Youth Organization met May 18 in Stromsburg drawing 55 attendees under Kenneth Schmidt and Rev. and Mrs. Bollinger. They planned a Rural Youth Camp to Morris Minnesota June 6 to 8, with attendees Kathleen Kuhnel Tom Brigham Bob Lux Shelby Ramona Walgreen Osceola. Entertainment featured square dancing a schottisch and new waltzes. Thanks were given to Russ Matticks Mrs Matticks and Mr and Mrs George Hassel bach for calling and assistance and Stromsburg merchants for lunch and hamburgers. A picnic in Osceola park is planned for June 8.

District 37 held its picnic on Thursday in the bluffs to bid farewell to eighth graders Carol Scherer and Vernon Kuhnel. About 60 attended the Osceola Park event with noon dinner and games including horseshoes. Teacher Mrs. Clyde Smith plans to return next fall.

An Osceolan woodworker placed a small want ad for an old Round Oak Dining table. About 14 county calls followed in a month, showing strong demand for scarce oak tables. The latest inquiry arrived last weekend, but the item was filled three weeks ago and is no longer needed.

Polk County Noxious Weed District reports active roadside and field spraying with 2,4-D Amine Salt recommended for wheat and oats at specific growth stages. Certification deadlines are May 20 for small grains and forage crops, June 20 safflower, July 20 alfalfa and red clover, August 1 native grasses and others. Black spot on roses treated by weekly sulfur or Ferbam. Lawn weed control notes include 2,4-D on dandelions and chickweed, iron sulphate as alternate, and TCA for broad grass kill before reseeding bluegrass.
