Osceola and surrounding area report busy with church conferences and school events. Local notices include commencements at Osceola High School, York District Conference plans, repairs and auctions, farmers urged to buy local, and community visits by residents to Lincoln and Omaha.
A suitor recites a prepared speech to Mr Wealthyman to win consent for his daughter. The moment in the presence of the father shows his nerves as he awkwardly stammers the request, repeating phrases and failing to complete his lines. The scene highlights awkward romance and parental tests of suitability.
Frank S Holm and family attended Frank S Larson's Sunday gathering. Carrie Holm and son Nels visited daughter Mrs A H Anderson in Stromsburg. A school district No 48 event is being planned for next Friday night. Route 1 turkey eggs and a two legged joke appear in local chatter. Various neighbors share harvest gifts and dinners with thanks expressed.
Mr. Ed Hester assists John Foy with moving a house on his farm west of town. A new church on Route 2 receives a coat of paint this week. Eva Mills helps Mrs. B G Peterson with her work this week. HH Hubbard works for W W J Benson, learning farming methods.
Wm Hasselbalch left for Seattle Tuesday morning. J A Johanson walked to town Monday and got caught in rain. Otto Hasselbalch shipped out 27 cases of eggs last week. Amos Drum received word that his father in law died Tuesday morning at 10 am. H Kropatch visited Frank Bernt Sunday. Hubert Kropatch began plowing corn Wednesday. George Englehart’s house is enclosed and has six gable ends. Carrier on No 3 found oats sacks at J W Crozier and at Charles Gans boxes midweek. Mr and Mrs Buchholz visited Lewis Nebosis Tuesday. Dance at John Bernt’s Tuesday evening well attended. J P Nebosis shelled corn Wednesday.
Route 4 reports C. E. Clauff’s new wind mill a dandy from D. T. Mackie. Stalnaker school closed Friday. Geo Hotchkiss returns after tonsillitis. Andrew Stoner welcomes a baby boy born on the 16th. James McKeag’s new baby girl born on the 17th. he now wears a cane and plug hat. Geo Watts injures leg at a show and limps. Si Locke and wife visit T. W. Blake. Herman Kuntsman reports 11 fine spring piglets. Ray Clark transferred from Havelock to Omaha. Farmers begin planting corn early. Margie Alckinsey stays with Hannah Swanson. John Celia and Hannah Swanson visit west of Osceola with parents.
Calmer McCure Jr purchased the Stromsburg News and will assume leadership on June Sth. imil Anderson, formerly at Weston, now works for F B Gold & Co. Street Fair starts next Tuesday. Mrs Dr Flippin attended the Eclectic Medical Assoc in Lincoln this week. E E Stanton had his house painted recently. Mrs W E Nickel of Omaha visited the city. A large audience enjoyed the high school program. Mr Chamberlain has moved into the Pollock residence. Last Saturday a surprise 60th birthday party was given to Mr and Mrs Darrow by about 30 friends.
