Alfred Bader of the Merrick County SWCD announces this year’s Soil Stewardship Week theme Challenges of Growth. Special services begin May 23 with observances through May 30. A Grand Island Social Security rep will discuss claims May 17 at Silver Creek City Hall.
S Creek locals visit Virgil Lassek home in Columbus Tuesday. Several hosts celebrated birthdays and mothers day with relatives across Osceola Grand Island and Clarks. Families from Ulysses York Lexington and Columbus attended dinners and visited kin including the Mustards and Fuehrers.
Silver Creek is organizing Little League baseball for summer with an organizing meeting for interested boys and fathers at the Silver Creek Legion Hall on Friday May 14 at 8 p.m. The group is sponsored by American Legion Post 263 of Silver Creek.
Social visits and family updates from Sargent Ord and surrounding towns. Families mentioned include Vanek Amos Kluna and Beeks spread across Lincoln AFB Ord and Fullerton. A Denver trip for Silver Creek seniors and a newborn Thomas Jay in Central City are noted along with hospital visits and Sunday gatherings.
Silver Creek high school held its Junior Senior Prom on May 6 in the gym. The Arabian Nights themed event featured red and white tents camels and silver stars. A banquet was prepared by junior mothers served by sophomores, with Greg Burger and Phil Gray giving remarks. Dan Oppliger sang a vocal solo and servers performed Ahab the Arab. Jack Burger provided closing remarks as Ray Syslo DJed the dancing.
Goodwill will collect usable items from the Mrs. W. E. Peterson home in Silver Creek on May 21. The pickup seeks donated goods in usable condition for reuse.
Silver Crieze senior events announce baccalaureate services on Sunday May 16 at 8 p m with Rev E S DeSpain delivering the address and the mixed chorus led by Mrs Schell. Commencement is set for Wednesday May 19 with Dr Robert Manley from the University of Nebraska as speaker. Larry Meyer to present the 8th grade granates while Mr Stokes presents the senior class. First Grade News notes library visit book checkouts and classroom drawings of flowers and butterflies.
Navy en sign Larry K Frizzell son of Floyd K Frizzell of Silver Creek serves with Air Antisubmarine Squadron 27 at Naval Air Station Norfolk Va The squadron was aboard the USS Intrepid in March when the carrier recovered astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young after the Gemini III mission The squadron flies the Grumman S 2E Tracker antisubmarine aircraft and is part of the Intrepid carrier group.
The Walter Exies and Chapman Lyle Himebaughs shared Mother's Day at Dick Edie home near Central City. Trey Van Winkles visited Ne ligh with daughter. Rex Graham and Sidney Grahams joined Gary Graham in Columbus for meals. Methodist churches Fairview Silver Creek announce May 16 sermons by Rev. Max O McCamley at 9:30 and 11:00 with Quarterly Conference at 2:30.
Fairview Methodist hosts a midweek program featuring the Silver Creek and Osceola ladies as guests. A film on John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, will be shown. Kindergarten made May baskets and turtles for mothers with I love you mother on the shells. Second graders finish More Friends Old and New Reading and observe visits from Mrs. Eldon Benson and others. Fourth grade tours Columbus to see How the West Was Won and notes Iq and achievement tests plus health with Clem the visible man. End of year picnic is May 22.
