The Girl's Glee Club from Osceola won first place at the state contest in Lincoln last week. Osceola stood out among many contestants from larger schools, highlighting the students and instructors at Osceola High School for elevating standards and proudly carrying the banner of the old high school.

Hardware and seed orders advertised for Shelby and Stromsburg. The Forty Niners Bridge Club hosts a last party at Judge Norton’s home with gingham gowns and overalls. Mares for sale and a push sweep also listed. A Full House play at the Auditorium tonight with no seat reservations.
Mr and Mrs Milo Joy and family visited the Will Zimmerman home on Wednesday. Frank Kotzer travelled to Columbus for a trial related to last fall's auto accident. Polk County farmers report rain improving wheat and oats, with corn planting starting. Naomi Hartman and Bobbie Leseur visited. Arvid Anderson and family met with Stromsburg business contacts. Many horses sick. Nebosis and Kopf families seek medical help for animals. Olga Knietel hosted by Nebosis in Columbus. Will Zimmerman and Juanita visited James Farris Sr in Osceola. Lamoree hauled cattle to Omaha. Will Dunn drive noted. An ice cream supper occurred in District 5. Jim Gibbins hauled hogs to Osceola. Columbus visits by Nebosis family. Valley crowd attended a Clarks visit after last Wednesday’s tornado. Barn dance at Chas Prososki home drew a large crowd.
A Polk County committee from each community is formed to promote the 1928 Nebraska State Fair exhibit of farm crops. Names listed include C B Knerr Stromsburg George K. Anderson Stromsburg Adolph Kresha Osceola and many others. Premiums totaling 200 last year will be offered again with counties sending winning crops to the State Fair.
The Lincoln Star notes that by May 1 1927 the national debt dropped under 18 billion, with a 1927 reduction of 1.094 billion and total outstanding debt at 17.8477 billion. It compares U S progress favorably with Europe and forecasts full repayment in twenty five years if the trend continues.

Erickson, 65, dies after surgery at York Lutheran Hospital. he long ran Stromsburg’s jewelry business and served as mayor. Funeral at Eden Baptist Church with local ministers and a fine community turnout.
Mr and Mrs Ed Scow welcome a six pound baby boy born Wednesday in Shelby. D. C. Cole of Lincoln visited Shelby earlier in the week. Several families from Gresham, Stromsburg, Lincoln and Clark areas spent weekends with relatives and attended the farmer's fair. A surprise party for James Corbett occurred in Lincoln on May 2 with numerous Shelby and Lincoln guests.
Next Sunday at the Methodist Church the morning service honors Mothers with family attendance invited. An eight o’clock evening baccalaureate sermon on Enduring Investments will be preached. Special choir music accompanies the message urging religious training as America’s paramount need. Ladies Aid Society meets Friday afternoon with Miss Madge More as hostess.
Miss Marjorie Sturdevant formerly of Osceola has been chosen as vice president of the Student's Council at the State University. Two year old Concord grape vines are priced at $4.00 per hundred from E. A. Lavine Florence Station Route 8 Omaha.
A large class of 29 students will receive diplomas at Osceola High School commencement next Wednesday evening May 16 with W E Sealock of the University of Nebraska Teachers College as speaker.
