Cold spell persists with 4 inches of snow in the past week. Daily readings list temps from March 23 to March 29 ranging from 1B to 39 and 29, reflecting fluctuating spring temperatures amid lingering winter conditions.
Osceola remembers S W Calhoun longtime Union Pacific agent telegrapher who retires after nearly six decades with the railroad. Born 1885 Albion he began as a helper clerk in 1905, later serving at Albion Chapman Ord Wahoo Osceola and Wahoo before returning. He is active in Masonic Lodge Eastern Star and Railroad Telegraphers. Lucille Veelik named new agent. family to relocate to Osceola.
Milan Mike Snodgrass of Bush Drugs Osceola captured third prize, an Apache camping trailer, in a national drug retailer contest sponsored by Glenbrook Laboratories. R J Peterson district manager presented the award.
Job's Daughters Spring-65 show presented by King's Court of York drew a full house at the Methodist Church. Brenda Bugbee and Barbara Bennett greeted guests while Marsha Carlson introduced John Rogers. Audrey Ranwell modeled outfits. Connie Wiswell, state Grand Honored Queen, also modeled. Prizes awarded to several ladies. about 140 served at luncheon.
Since 1961 the Soil Conservation Service has mapped over 210000 acres of Polk County with 75 percent completion and a remaining 60000 acre strip along the western edge. Vernon Seevers leads the aerial photo based mapping at York with field checks to follow.

Osceola residents note Tressie Brown’s return from California. Wren Sherwoods visited Central City with the Guy Sherwood family, then the John Gustafsons. Monica Schott hosted relatives including R. B. Ronspies and Will Ronspies of Pierce for Monday coffee. Other visits included the Schott family, Herrmanns, and guests from Lincoln, Omaha, York, Minneapolis, and Stromsburg. The Osceola Chamber of Commerce met to discuss Old Times Day on June 1 with a parade band window displays and a style show plus a square dance. Officers approved plans and discussed welcoming flags a clothing store opening later this summer and other community events.

Ensign Larry K. Frizzell, son of Floyd Frizzell, sailed on the U S carrier Intrepid in the Caribbean when it recovered the Gemini 3 astronauts. The Oliver Corporation ran a farm tractor clinic in town on March 26 hosted by Osceola Implement with Kerry Schmelzer leading the session and Vern Ness, Jim Wild assisting along with Elmer B. Johnson, Hardy Huggler, and Leonard Davidson of Rising City.
Dr. John D. LeMar elected president of St Luke's Hospital medical staff in Fargo North Dakota. A pathologist since joining the Fargo clinic in 1947, he previously taught at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and served in the military 1942 46.
