Seed Source Important for Native Grass Pastures
Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District urges careful seed selection for permanent pastures. Local expert Harold Klingman notes over 600 acres seeded to natives last year, stressing seeds should be locally adapted and within 150 to 200 miles north or 250 to 300 miles south to survive harsh winters. Farmers should order early and use locally recommended mixtures.
