The Nebraska Legislature advances the Natural Resource Districts to operatives July 1 1972 replacing multiple conservation groups. Boundaries may change by 1975 with a unified board drawn from current districts. NRD powers include erosion control flood prevention ground water and surface water management waste disposal habitat recreation and forestry.
