Twenty five sheriffs and deputy sheriffs from 12 counties gathered in Osceola for their district group’s monthly meeting. Sheriff Machurek of David City presides. welcome by Mayor Pierson with remarks from Rep. Hastings and Lt. Payne. A city dinner followed at City Cafe.
The Green's Chapel Ladies Aid will meet this Thursday March 12 for the first time since January. Victor Club will meet with Mrs. Edith Dillsaver next Tuesday March 17. The L W Class of Green's Chapel plans a class party March 13 in the church community room.
Local notice reports Mr and Mrs Andrew E Nuquist of Madison Wisconsin announce the birth of a son named Andrew Selby on Sunday March 8 The item also notes Miss Neva Hastings return from St Marys Hospital Columbus after five weeks and prior medical care for scarlet fever and a double mastoid operation Edna and Fannie McCray hosted guests including Mrs Philip Timm and Mr Harold Jones while Mr C E Jones received medical care P A Nelson won five dollar prize in a photograph contest for a fire risk submission for the Dwelling House Insurance Company of Lincoln Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company started rerouting toll lines from Stromsburg to Osceola involving extensive pole wire and arm installations with completion expected by May 5 under foreman H Moss
Residents mourn the death of Elmer Ellsworth Stanton aged 74 at his Stromsburg home on March 9. A Polk County lawyer and former county attorney, he lived in Stromsburg since 1884 with stints in Chicago and Hood River Oregon. He is survived by wife Jennie, four children, two sisters, two brothers, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and inlaws. Burial in Stromsburg Cemetery. Funeral held at 2 pm Thursday with Rev. E. H. Jackson officiating. Polk County Bar to attend.
The Department of Literature meets Monday March 16 at 2 50 with Mrs J C Marquis for Poetry Appreciation. The Junior Department gathers Monday evening at 7 30 at Mrs Harvey Eklund's home with book review of The Stars Look Down by Miss Evelyn Scholz Miss Helen Winsor and Mrs Dewey Sigler. The Music Division rehearses at the high school Monday at 7 30.
Shelby and surrounding areas saw family moves visits and social events. Mr and Mrs Nick Gondringer moved from Schott farm to Smith farm near Shelby. Dewey Shaw visited relatives in Shelby Osceola and Lincoln. Homer Phelps and Earl Aden visited Mrs Phelps and her mother. Kosch sisters and Veronica Hiller hosted in Shelby Bellwood. Blevins family planned return from Texas and Brownville winter stay. Mrs Smith of Lincoln and Dr P R Smith family hosted visitors. Kosch gallstone operation occurred in Columbus. Leiber family visited in Shelby. Margaret Gondringer hosted a birthday dinner for N V Gondringer. Arthur Buchholz family visited near Stromsburg. Women’s Foreign Missionary Society met at S W Longacre’s home. Max Thelen Dale Wills visited Lincoln relatives. Miss Conners from Omaha took charge at Sacred Heart rectory. Pinochle club hosted husbands at Mrs Howard Thatcher’s home.

The House debated impeachment of Federal Judge Halsted L Ritter for the Southern District of Florida, with the measure passing 181 to 146 and the judge awaiting trial in the Senate. The President’s tax plan proposes a $1.717 billion package, including a tax on undivided corporate surpluses and possible excise taxes, with Ways and Means guidance in weeks. Lutheran Church notes list Bible Conference at Luther College in Wahoo starting Thursday 8 p.m. and running through Sunday. Junior Mission Band meets Saturday at 2 20 p.m. 411 members urged to bring dues. Sunday schedule includes School Worship and Vespers. Stoner Club plans its first meeting of the year for next Wednesday March 18 with Della Johnson as host and assistants Myrtle Marak and Anna Pearson. Neela Watts serves as program leader and all members are urged to attend.
The Kill Kare Klub met at Mrs. John Rogers home with Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Schroeder earning high score prize and Mrs. C. R. Collins the traveling prize. Next week the club will gather at Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Byers home with several members assisting. Junior Herbes of Polk visits grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Herbes this week.

Offices note Polk’s new road maintainer and local movements of residents, with honey demonstrations announced for March across Nebraska led by Maritta Fischer Jensen.
Polk County legislator J. N. Norton announces candidacy for the new unicameral Nebraska Legislature representing Polk Hamilton and Clay counties. In a letter to the paper Norton cites prior service in the Nebraska Legislature 1911 1918 1915 1917 and U S Congress 1927 1929 1931 1938 as qualifications.
A rural school board and patrons meeting is set for Friday March 13 at the Osceola courthouse beginning 1 15 in the afternoon. The program lists music from district pupil groups and the Liberty Male Quartette, introductions of guest speakers Miss McBeth and Supt R B Carey, and talks on board problems and inequalities of opportunities.
