Sock it to em theme for cartwheel payroll

Four local men and about 40 coworkers at Augustine Brothers Ranch and A R Trucking in Shelby were paid part of their wages in a sock full of silver dollars. About 500 pounds of mint dated dollars from 1971 and 1972 were ordered through First National Bank of Shelby. The idea came from curiosity to see how much payroll stays local and workers were asked to spend the coins as is. Delivery required no guard or special handling and payroll with checks would be easier, admits Bob Gillespie.
