Polk County Exemption Board Appointed for Draft Process

Lincoln reports Polk County has named its exemption board to select landis for the national army under the draft law. David Potter chairs the board with Joel Hanson and Dr. C L LeMar as members. Boards announced in many states follow President Wilsons guidance to utilize city and county officials. Work begins next week as exemptions await further instructions from the war department.

Osceola Red Cross War Fund Drive Raises 1258

Osceola reported a two day effort raising 1258 for the Red Cross War Fund and 3385 for local membership. Volunteers worked Friday and Saturday to solicit donations with no membership push on those days. A Red Cross benefit is announced for Auditorium on Thursday June 28.

Community dinner at Baptist church honors local leaders

About forty five business and professional men attended a four course supper at the Baptist church in a well received “zet together” gathering. Rev R A Jensen acted as toastmaster with remarks by H C Beebe O E Mickey Judge F H Ball James Mickey Mayor M A Mills Jr and H H Campbell. Rev Barton of Eden Baptist Stromsburg praised the event, while an editorial in Fremont Tribune denounced Red Cross donors who gave less than their means as slackers.
