Osceola Slowed by Utica Rally in Lopsided Loss
Osceola was routed by Utica 16 to 1 last Sunday dropping to the league cellar. Three Osceola pitchers held Utica to 17 scattered hits as a late ninth inning rally produced Osceola’s lone run.

Paving Heave on Highway 40 After Heat Wave
Extreme heat last week caused pavement expansion on Highway 40 near Silver Creek Mill, lifting two large blocks about sixteen inches at the joint and creating a traffic hazard. Authorities set barricades while crews broke away concrete and dropped slabs back into place amid other minor heaves.

Funeral Services Held for Mrs Amelia C Nelson
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Swede Home Church with Rev A E Franzen in charge for Mrs Amelia C Nelson nee Anderson who died June 22 at North Platte aged 70. She was born Swede Home April 16 1876 and moved with her family to North Platte in 1919. She is survived by three sons Julius of San Diego Lyle and Paul of North Platte three grandchildren Virginia Wesley and Na deen Nelson and two brothers Robert Anderson North Platte and Charles E Anderson of Kiowa Colorado. Mr Nelson preceded her in death in January 1932.

Polk County Extension News Harvest ways and weed district plans
County meeting in the Ciirtroom on Tuesday June 18 discussed harvest wages and custom schedules with figures 4.00 to 5.00 per acre for combining and 3.50 for high acreage days. A. Smith spoke on Weed Districts and the Nebraska Weed Law. Seventeen volunteers circulated petitions for county wide weed control, with fifty five landowner signatures reported. Pawnee wheat in June looks strong with 1946 possibly an early harvest and yields estimated 25 to 60 bushels per acre. Grasshoppers appear in parts of the county and bait is prepared for distribution. Jolly Homemakers met to work on record books. Dusting sulfur prescribed for bean leafhopper control with weekly or ten‑day repeats.
