Dam on Berck farm stores 43 acre feet of runoff
Walter Berck and nearby farmers built a dam on the Berck farm to hold runoff from a 1515 acre drainage area. The design stores 31 acre feet permanently and 167 acre feet for flood detention. In a 3 hour 3.1 inch rain the dam captured 43 acre feet with 0.51 inch runoff per acre, illustrating conservation tools at work and urging wider land treatment and flood control projects.
