Nebraska highway plan favors upgrading existing system over extending interstate

Nebraska officials led by Gov. Tiemann and the highway commission, with the legislative roads study committee, urge a long range program to link population centers and boost farm to market traffic by upgrading current roads rather than seeking new interstate miles. A $2.5 billion, 12 year plan was discussed with funding concerns and a vote forthcoming on highway revenue bonds. Nebraska hopes for more federal aid if the interstate is not expanded.
