Memorial Day forecast shifted to clear skies as Polk county residents remember the dead with a weekend of visits and reunions.

The Legion Auxiliary invites girls from sixth grade to high school age to meet on the Legion Building second floor Thursday afternoon, June 5, to organize a kittenball team. The group will sponsor the project and welcomes interested attendees to join the club.
The Sutton Osceola ball game scheduled for next Sunday has been transferred to Sutton as the local diamond is being prepared for night games. The night contest at Sutton will start at 8 30 p m under the lights.
Stromsburg will host its first Fourth of July celebration in years with a program featuring a baseball game in the afternoon and evening, a band concert, a tug of war for a $50 purse, and free coffee for those bringing lunch. The plans, announced this week by local officials in Polk County.

Miss Helen May Deeter daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Deeter married Robert R Yost son of Mr and Mrs Herman Yost at St Pauls Lutheran Osceola in a 2 pm May 27 double ring ceremony Rev M L Swenson officiated. The pair plan to reside in Omaha.
Mrs Opal Huggler of Beatrice joins the Marven Iler family in Omaha for a visit. A group of twenty marks Mrs Alt's birthday with friends and relatives at the Hubert Alt home. Various locals host guests from Columbus Gloster South Gate and Norfolk. Osceola Local Farmers Union plans a meeting on June 10.
Albert J. Johnson aged 75 died Monday afternoon after a period of ill health. He leaves a widow and seven children, including Mrs. Carleton Anderson of Stromsburg. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 30 p m at the Baptist Church in Stromsburg.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Schmoker announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Virginia Rose to Jack Dalton Long son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley D Long of Grand Island.
