The Polk County Fair board cuts admission to 25 cents and season tickets to 75 cents with children under 14 admitted free. They say the move makes the fair accessible to every Polk County citizen and aims to ensure a standout 1936 event driven by community spirit.
Victor E. Wilson, former Nebraska state railroad commissioner, is appointed assistant United States attorney in Los Angeles. A Nebraska and California graduate, he practiced law in Los Angeles, and previously held roles as banker, state bank examiner, and Polk County attorney. Wilson, born in Illinois, came to Nebraska at age nine and lived in Stromsburg.
Miss Clariné Johnson visits with Omaha relatives as Threshers picnic scenes unfold at Osceola Park. Families including the Fredricksons and Nelsons attend gatherings. Luther League Convention dates set. Osceola hosts club picnics and visitors from Polk, Grand Island, and Omaha.
Erick Ostberg 95 long time Polk County resident died at his son Ed J Ostberg’s home near Alda. Born in Sweden in 1841 he came to America in 1867 settling in Illinois then moved to Nebraska. Survived by wife, son, daughter and a granddaughter. Interment at Laclede Cemetery.
The Osceola swimming pool sees rising attendance with receipts topping one thousand dollars in the first month of operation this year. Modernization including a late filtration system and a new bathhouse attracts visitors from across the county and neighboring areas, making the park a favored picnic spot for organizations and groups.
The Lutherans hold weekly events including Ice Cream and Cake on the Court House Lawn Wednesday evening, Sunday School at 10:00, Communion Service at 11:00, Vespers at 8:00 led by Luther League, Confirmation Class Tuesday at 8:00, and Ladies Aid Thursday at 2:30 hosted by Mrs. Anna Anderson.

Polk County land values reached a new high when the late Arnold Grossnicklaus estate sold 720 acres in a referee's sale. Heirs mostly purchased, with outside bidders competing. gross proceeds were 66 400. Notables include Roy Grossnicklaus buying 240 acres for 30 850 and Hollie Grossnicklans taking the 120 acre home place for 13 850. The sale signals rising demand for Polk County farms despite adverse conditions.
Miss Berniece Clerc daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Clerc of Gresham and Lawrence Gondringer of Shelby were married at 8:00 A M in Sacred Heart Church Shelby Father Schlachter officiated. Bride wore white satin with rose bouquet. bridesmaid wore lavender silk. A wedding breakfast was served for relatives at the groom’s home and a 12 o’clock dinner at the bride’s parents home in Gresham.
Mrs James Lockard sr and family returned from a two month Pacific coast trip mainly in Portland with relatives and friends in Washington and California. Lincolns McKeags brought home Lucille while Marilyn stayed. Gene Buchholz and Louis Scow left for a ten day western vacation. Osceola hosts royal neighbors meeting. several Shelby families visit Norflok and Lincoln area relatives.
George Dammer and George Dailey suffered electrical shocks while working in the meat market cooling room. Dammer completed a circuit by grabbing a pipe, fell numb then recovered. Dailey nearly touched a charged water pipe, was saved by a co worker, and cut his thumb on an electric slicer. Northwestern Public Service Co. fixed a conduit fault and taped wiring.

Mr. Nielsen of Shelby purchased the Victor Anderson building on Main Street and plans remodeling to host skating and dances during winter months. Arrangements were not yet complete. Local residents and visitors include Leonard Wallin of Hordville, Misses Swanson, Paper and Beryl Younger, and several Greene County families visiting relatives and attending social events at homes and parks. The Standard Bearers of the M. E. Church held an ice cream social on the church lawn, netting about ten dollars.
A 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. George P Mace of Fairview included a noon dinner for seventy at home, a church program, vows renewed, and a reception with a radio gift. The couple married July 22 1886 and lived in Polk County Nebraska since 1890 with seven children and nineteen grandchildren.
