Rodine reports June savings bond sales in Polk County

A. E. Rodine, county chairman, states Polk County E and H savings bonds purchases for June reach 25 556 dollars, boosting first half 1960 sales to 355 875 dollars or 47 1 percent of the county quota. Nebraska total for June 5 639 174 dollars and six months 49 212 564 dollars, 45 8 percent of the state quota. Nationally, June sees higher sales and lower redemptions year over year for the second month in a row.

Brothers Burned Taking Down TV Antenna Near Shelby

Sylvester 15 and Daniel 13 sons of Mr and Mrs Kobra living near Shelby were severely burned when a TV antenna fell onto a power line. Their father gave artificial respiration before the boys were taken to Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital where they were reported improving.

Graveside Services Here For Geo Campbell of Osceola

Graveside services were held at the cemetery here at 2:00 p m Wednesday for George Campbell, a hardware dealer in Osceola many years ago. At the time of his death he was living in Osceola, Iowa. He still held membership in the local Eastern Star and Masonic Lodges. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife.

Kenneth Moore purchased Polk County land at a referee's sale in Osceola on Thursday July 7. He bought the southeast corner of Section 24-13-1 for 40500 dollars. The sale was conducted by referee M. A. Mills of Osceola and reported by Attorney H. L Hylton.

St Trooper Fairchild Chases 17 Year Old Stolen Car Thief

Polk County trooper Vern Fairchild pursued a 17 year old driving a stolen car for over 40 miles at 90 to 105 mph. The youth abandoned the chase in a dead end street at St Paul after the vehicle plunged there. The start was west of Osceola and the car had been stolen in Seward. He planned to reach Kansas but could not evade capture north of Seward.

A Luther League Leadership School was held at Luther College in Wahoo Nebraska from July 11 to 16. It trained Luther League officers with 108 young people attending from Wyoming Colorado Missouri Kansas and Nebraska. Carolyn Swanson and Lynn Anderson attended from the local league.

Mrs. Kenneth Stewart Dies in Polk Rites Thursday

Mrs. Kenneth Stewart 53 of Polk died Sunday evening at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital. Funeral services set for Thursday July 21 at Polk Methodist Church with Rev. Oscar Johnson officiating. She was active in church work, Polk Women's Club, former Eastern Star matron and a director of Citizens Bank of Polk. Survivors include husband, daughter Joyce and son Donald.

County Agent Gary B Garey announced the Archer Daniels Midland Incentive Award for Polk County 4-H. Fire Department Responds Twice to Local Alarms

Fire crews were called twice last week. A false alarm occurred when weeds along the road east of town burned. The second fire spread in Harold A. Nelson’s wheat field. An exhaust fire from Mr. Shockey’s car set off a blaze in the stubble and damaged his vehicle.
