Rainfall from one to two inches fell over the county on Monday, delaying the wheat harvest but boosting the 1946 corn crop. Farmers expect more moisture in August could yield one of the largest corn crops in history as conditions remain favorable for rapid maturation.
Mr and Mrs Darrell Randall depart from LaGinerdia Airport aboard a four motor Constellation Clipper to begin a three year service project as special representatives of the Methodist Foreign Mission Board Their task is to foster intercultural understanding and address international tensions aiding world brotherhood He holds masters degrees in economics and international administration and training in relief while she earned a masters in public health nutrition They are the son and daughter in law of Rev and Mrs G A Randall
Pvt Byron Torell is home on furlough with his parents and Quintin. Several families, including the Newcomers and Berggrens, are hosting or visiting relatives this week. The 4th Quarterly Conference with Dr Hunter is set for July 21, as is the Jolly Workers Club picnic at Buckley Park. LaRee Mae Torell was born July 11 at Stromsburg hospital. Various visits and travels among Carlson, Berggren, Powell, Hartman, Lindgren, Holm, Peterson, and Rasp households are noted. Rev EB Reed of York preached at Greens Chapel with another service planned.
Osceola residents hosted relatives including the McKeags and Wilcoxs during the week while Rev. EB Reed announced to preach at Greens Chapel next Sunday at 11 AM. Seaman Raymond Schott returned home from Tokyo Bay discharge in St. Louis, and David Nelson and Shirley Ann visited Osceola en route to Glendale, California.
The WSCS will meet Thursday July 25 with Mrs Kenneth Richards. Wesley Chapel Club will meet Wednesday July 24 with Miss Lula Burns. David Richards has returned after discharge from occupation forces in Germany. Alfred Kuehnal family and Lane Kuehnal picnic in city park Sunday. Louie discharged from coast guard. Mr and Mrs Burt Dunn returned from Beatrice visit. Timmons family went to western state to buy alfalfa hay for Beatrice mill. Mr and Mrs Merle Watts Valentine Miss Minnie White Omaha and Parl Watts guests of Nellie Watts Osceola. Mr and Mrs John Scott Snelby visited with Floyd West Sunday.
Dr. Alfred Trued longtime Stromsburg pastor from 1928 to 1945 died at Immanuel Deaconess Home in Omaha on Friday July 12 at age 71. He is survived by daughter Eleanor Fahrer of Wahoo and Constantine Trued of Chicago. Funeral services were conducted at Swedeborg with ministers from Stromsburg District of the Nebraska Conference of the Augustana Synod and Anton Limdeen of Council Bluffs preaching the sermon.
The Lutheran Church invites worshipers for the 6th Sunday after Trinity with Bible Classes at 10:00 a.m. and Divine Worship at 11:00 a.m. Luther League meets Thursday at 8:30 p.m. George Maleks and Miss Lois Fleming will entertain.
Rev. G. A. Randall pastor announces Sunday School at 10:00. No preaching services on July 21. Dr. A. V. Hunter district superintendent will preach and hold quarterly conference on July 28.
The Fairview Church announces Sunday July 21 with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 15 a.m. Dr A A Brooks of Omaha will preach. A covered dish luncheon follows at noon, then a business meeting.

The Merry Makers 4-H Club met in July at the Floyd Lyte home with guest Miss Bute of Osceola. Jean elle Kroger and Luella Gustafson demonstrated a table setting while Mari belle Lyte prepared potato soup and Lois Miller showed hand towel making. President Marlyee Shostrom led the business session and the group planned a special number for each meeting. refreshments were served by LaVerne and Maribelle Lyie.
Mrs Mable Benjamin and Mrs Ella Shenk entertained guests at Thursday dinner including A C Benjamin of Wilmar Minnesota and others from Oakland San Diego and Omaha. Sunday guests included Mrs Mabel Dornburg and Mr Oscar Stromberg hosted in Stromsburg. Additional visits list Stromsburg Osceola Polk Weston and Stromberg areas with several family groups and local residents.
