The opening night presentation Two Blocks Away arrives at Chautauqua with a renowned New York cast. The implausible plot surprises audiences and fosters a gentle philosophy, delivering a teachable moment about kindness and perspective.
George A. Williams of Fairmont writes to Lincoln Journal sharing striking Nebraska facts about counties, area, distances, population, and industry. He notes Nebraska could form multiple large states by area, mentions famous Nebraskans, and reports local events in Shelby and Osceola including housing deals and a baby birth.
A friendly golf tournament at Osceola Country Club on July 11 featured players from Fullerton Central City Genoa Palmer and Osceola clubs. Top scores by Fullerton Osceola Palmer and Central City led to a 18 hole total of 330 for Fullerton. The event was part of a summer series ending Labor Day at Central City with clubs fielding representatives.
The GoGetter Sewing Club met Friday with six members at the Lundberg home. They planned the next gathering for July 23 at Miss Evelyn Peterson's home. Sunday visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Louie Johnston and family in Stromsburg.
The Happy Hour Society met on July 9 with 13 members and 3 visitors. Mrs. Millie Kearns led a lively program while Miss Thelma Frizzell won first in a guessing contest and Tillie Tooker the consolation. A July 22 gathering is planned with Mrs. Edith Creemen as host and Mrs. Mable Creemen as program leader. A lunch of ice cream cake and ice tea was served.
Members of the Business Women's League gathered at the city park Monday evening with guests including Miss Leona Nantkes of the Fairbury Club Miss Mildred Richmond of the Fremont Club and Miss Dorothy Potter of Overton Nebraska. Leona Nantkes and Mildred Richmond spoke about their clubs and the group thanked Mr Musselman and all attendees for supporting The Johnstown Flood event sponsored by the B W L Monday night.
A Ford sedan backed into about five to six feet of water at Shady Lake around midnight Sunday. Four occupants were unhurt. The car was pulled out with a rope and two vehicles. engine remained operable after reaching solid ground. Owner identified as Mr. Johnson of Shelby.
Little Oscar Harbert of Rising City fractured his right forearm Tuesday while visiting his uncle Claude Timm. He was brought to town and the arm dressed.
A sponsors meeting for the 1926 Chautauqua is set for next Monday evening July 19 at 7 30 in the court house community room. All interested in the Chautauqua are urged to attend. list of sponsors includes many local individuals and businesses.
Dodge Brothers dealers in the United States sold 173 383 motor cars and trucks in the first half of 1926, up 52 669 units or 43.6 percent from 120 704 in the same period of 1925. Dominion deliveries up over 65 percent while total U S and Canada shipments reach 207 115, a 49.8 percent rise.
About fifteen carloads of White Way boosters left Osceola this morning for Wahoo to attend the Platte River bridge dedication at Yutan. The trip promises a festive day with abundant advertising for Osceola and its booster program. Eva Negley returned from Wyoming to visit, while Rev T E Barr resigns as pastor after nearly four years.

C D Graves family motor trip to the Black Hills for two weeks. Jennie Anderson in Lutheran hospital York after operation, recovering. A C Morrill hosts fifteen guests at a Thempagon Hotel dinner. Elmer Nordlund family vacation in Minnesota. F A Raabe and Esther of Stanton visit Sharp home. Arthur Morrill Jr to B Y P U convention in Los Angeles. Clarence Hagelin, former Stromsburg teacher, accepts San Jose CA school post. Alice Terrell resigns from First National Bank due to ill health. Harry Skelton and family set to leave for Miami OK. Edmund Lunner from Chicago to visit parents. Fred Archibald and son Fred Jr visit two weeks. Ericson Anderson Hardware stages Monarch Electric Store cooking school. Chautauqua set for Stromsburg August 7 for five days. Mrs Frank Olson and Hugo reside in Lars Johnson house for summer after Florida winter.
Donald Curren of Palmer is the guest at the J. B. Curren home this week. Dr. H. E. McDonald and wife of Hastings were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McDonald yesterday.
Beulah local notes show Tom Snyder returning from Chicago with a companion from South Carolina. Alverta Buchta and a friend visited Leroy Rhodes. Mildred Mace visits Rolla Mace near Clarks. Dake home guests include Geo Mace family Paul Wisely family Mrs. Wm Martyn daughter Mina Buchta Mrs. Wm Lobr Mr and Mrs VanAlstine of Columbus. Mrs Harry Lind’s sister arrives from Wyoming for several weeks. Ed Mickey of Osceola and Mrs Guy Smith are among recent callers and a Grand Island hospital operation was reported for Mrs. Guy Smith. Chalmer Daniels hosted visitors from Omaha.
De C LeMar attended the dedication of the new Yutay bridge. Residents and local officials gathered to mark the event in Omaha with remarks on the project’s impact and future use.
An examination for teachers will be held at Osceola on Saturday July 24 1926. The regular program will be followed. This will be the last examination before the opening of the school year 1926-27. I D Huston 45-2.
County Clerk John Sjoblom announces absent voters may apply for ballots now through August 8. Five ballots will be used in the Nebraska primaries including Republican Democratic Progressive La Follette Independent and non political options. About 40 absent ballots were cast in the last general election. more are expected during peak vacation season.
Forbes calls Fred Anderson the Miracle Merchant of Corad Nebraska a 1300 resident town. His store spans 37000 square feet and rotates stock 3.5 times per season. He emphasizes advertising and cooperation and targets women as primary shoppers with truthful, nationwide advertised merchandise.
