Fourth Nebraska Camp Detrains in Terrific Rainstorm
Under Col George Eberly and Lt Col William Baehr the Fourth Nebraska detrucked Monday in a heavy rainstorm and began pitching camp. Delays marked the last 100 miles as the train reached its destination and a suitable encampment could not be found locally. Indicating plans for a large border concentration, Indiana and Minnesota troops begin arriving while Sanitation Chief Major L Brechemin, Jr. oversees efforts. A nearby lake, shade, and fishing attract attention as New York regiments gather nearby and Col Blocksom commands. The first division paused in Odem Texas after a fatal track accident involving Don Smith, who was intoxicated and sleeping on the tracks.
