The bank reports total deposits exceeding one million dollars for the first time in its history, marking a milestone for The First National Bank of Osceola.
Mrs Henry Taddiken 52 passed away at her Shelby home Monday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Church with Rev Lansing and Rev Longacre presiding. Obituary next week.
Pvt. Mardell Sargent son of Mr and Mrs WW Sargent of St Paul and Ardith Klentz daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Klentz were married Saturday June 30 at St Paul. Sargent formerly lived in Osceola before moving to Ericson Nebraska and then St Paul. He has been stationed at Fort Ord California and expected to depart overseas after furlough.
Miss Beulah Fox of Osceola wed Cpl. Harold L. Wilson son of Mr and Mrs Harry Wilson of Stromsburg in Osceola Saturday morning. Rev G A Randall officiated. Attendants were Miss Maxene Henggeler and Ray Wilson. Cpl Wilson has served in China and India. The bride worked in Stromsburg. A wedding dance follows at Parish Hall in Shelby.
Mr and Mrs Rayner Carlson and family attended the Army Show in Columbus Monday. Miss Eileen Karges visited relatives in Columbus from Monday to Thursday. Mrs Dan Hayes left for Michigan Friday to be with her seriously ill mother. Mrs Leo Larson visits Heitzman home for several weeks. George Heinemeyer Donald Heinemeyer and Lawrence Meacham group were in Omaha Saturday. Fairview Ladies Aid postponed from July 11 to 18. Hostesses will be Nell Wisely and Lesta Mace of Osceola. Shirley and Vivian Hickey returned to Omaha Saturday after weeks at Bernard Thomas home. Clair McCormick and Lanny of Stromsburg spent Sunday with Wm Dake. Mrs Gus Carlson accompanied her parents to Schuyler for a wedding. LaVerne Dake Rex called Sunday at Don Cunningham home near Fullerton.
J T Dale buys Geo Campbell residence near the square for 1500 dollars. Polk Osceola and Stromsburg 4 H members enroll in War Activity projects with new names. Sunny Side 4 H reports Janet DeBates joining. Bryans Busy Bees meet with canning methods discussed. Six girls plan to attend 4 H camp. Pawnee Wheat is fielded by Dwight Newcomers with praise for seed quality. Weed control demonstrations and seed availability noted for Polk County Fair.
Cpl Everette Smith returned to Sidney Neb after a two week furlough with Mr and Mrs Bert Smith. EM 2c Joan Magnuson aboard the carrier Shangri la reports aiding in the rescue of the Franklin where eight hundred perished. He has seen action in the Okinawa campaign.
The Osceola area marks furloughs and returns for servicemen and relatives. Lt Bud Deeds travels to Victoria after a two week Osceola visit. Elmer Stewart hospitalized in San Diego. Alvin Anderson returns from England on furlough. Dale Dunn stationed in Manila. Billy Norton at Scotts Field teletype course. Edward Schnasse Jr. and Mrs Schnasse visit from Great Lakes. Donald Farris, Columbus resident, earns navigator wings. Lt Terrence Messing on 60 day furlough. Lt Cmdr R B Lytle home from South Pacific for leave with family in Osceola.
Osceola relatives announce the marriage of Evelyn Scholz daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Scholz to Rush S Young. The ceremony took place in Gettysburg Pennsylvania on Sunday July 1 1945. Scholz, a University of Nebraska alumna and former Osceola teacher, later moved to San Diego California where she now resides at 4442 Utah St. after September 1.
The AAA Office will start accepting subsidy payments around July 20 for beef cattle sales. Payments are 50c per hundredweight for good and choice cattle weighing 800 pounds or more and selling for at least $13.85 per hundredweight per the Omaha market. Applicants must present original sales receipts. If cattle were not raised by the applicant, evidence of purchase date and seller details are required.
Numerous brief social notes recount visits and hospitality across Greens Chapel and Polk. Residents from Lincoln Benedict Stromsburg Rising City and nearby towns visit relatives, attend dinners, picnics, and lawn suppers. Names include Hennings Hurd Hahn Seymour Nelson and many more.
Claus Henry Anderson died at his Osceola home on July 3 1945 after a long Nebraska life as a settler, farmer and church leader. Born December 18 1858 in Smaland Sweden he emigrated with family in 1870, helped organize Swede Home Lutheran Church and served as county treasurer and in several farming and insurance roles. He is survived by nine children sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral July 6 at St Pauls Lutheran with burial in Swede Home Cemetery Stromsburg.
Pvt. Conrad Robak 18 son of Mr and Mrs Louis Robak of the valley north of Osceola was killed in action in Mindanao June 15. A 1944 Osceola High School graduate he entered the army last November and trained at Camp Hood Texas. He landed in the Philippines before May. Survived by parents two brothers Pvt Lawrence with the M P Division in Iran and Charles at home Russell was killed in an auto train accident last July 4 at Duncan.
Mrs Mary Hackethal of York was discharged Tuesday after surgery. Chris McCormick was admitted last Tuesday for medical treatment. Mrs Al Chantry entered Monday evening as a medical patient. Mrs Opal Colby of Silver Creek is receiving medical treatment this week. Mrs Louise Wurtz of Polk and Mrs Ruby Pliefke remain confined to the hospital this week.

It highlights a model by an electric equipment maker featuring an ironer, automatic washer and dryer, disposal unit, dishwasher, range, sink, and storage with a central snack bar, designed to eliminate basement trips and speed daily tasks.
Osceola soldier Rex F Dunn married Betty Rees daughter of Mr and Mrs W D Rees of Gabalfa Wales at St Mark's Church Gabalfa on July 4 at 10 30 am. Dunn a Osceola high school graduate joined the army October 23 1941 and served two years in the Panama Canal Zone before overseas duty in August 1944.
Mrs. Axel Bodine and family returned to Wichita after a three week stay with the Willits family and relatives. High Prairie Woman's Club enjoyed a picnic at Osceola park. Enyeart family notes a California wedding for Eileen Enyeart Koehler and Cpl. Chris Jenkins on June 30, with plans to settle in California. Other local movements include Omaha and Silver Creek visits, marriages of Agnes Branigan and Set. Francis Mullay, and various weekend visits among Enyearts Lisko Kubicek and Hasselbalch families.
A tornado on the western edge of Butler County five miles east of Shelby last Wednesday evening killed seven people including Mrs. James Henderson and several children. Twelve injured were treated at Columbus hospitals as farmers lost multiple homesteads and stores suffered damage. Lincoln air base soldiers aided cleanup with newer storms in Surprise causing more wreckage. No Polk County damage reported.
