Local readers propose three 1969 goals to The Record Office. A near miss on Kimmel Street prompts traffic control during school hours. A county road to the dump is considered for pavement. Residents urged to back rural and town businesses to curb population decline.
Relatives and friends are invited to an open house honoring Mr and Mrs Edmund Bernt of Shelby on Sunday February 2 from 2 to 4 PM in Sacred Heart School basement Shelby. No gifts requested.
Stromsburg wins the Goldenrod Tournament title bid with a 72-54 final over Osceola after beating Genoa and Palmer in earlier rounds. Jack Cerny scores 26 as Osceola executes a hard full court press to contain Stromsburg’s offense.
The City of Osceola will replace 90 street lights over three years under a contract with Consumers Public Power District. Consumers will install 30 lights per year with mercury vapor fixtures. Installation will be sectioned by area and billed to the city light bill on an apportioned basis.
An item notes that house numbers are available for pickup. It mentions pickup Saturday February 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Consumers and references Paul McKeag of Shelby and his Bachelor of Science degree awarded at the Winter Commencement Exercises at Kearney.
City Clerk Fred Bond announced a 15778 24 check from Nebraska was received January 21 as Osceola’s share of statewide sales tax refunds. The funds replace former tangible personal property and per head taxes and flow into 23 mill levy funds. Osceola’s portion is part of Polk County’s 66000 allocation with 52800 for four county towns and 20 percent to the county proper.
Citizens and law enforcement urge the City Council to study restricting traffic on Kimmel Street between the High School and Grade School. The two block area serves as a lunch hour and pre and post school walkway with pedestrians forcing drivers to take dangerous actions. Council to discuss February 6. residents invited to attend or contact council members with suggestions.

Bartek and his Bulldogs earned a second place at the conference tournament and will host Palmer on Friday before traveling to J ch on Saturday.
Jack Cerny son of Mr and Mrs John Cerny Osceola has been named an alternate to the United States Naval Academy by Senator Roman Hruska. Selection came from Civil Service Exam results with further college entrance tests and physical standards to be met.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Osceola High School Auditorium starting 10:00 a.m. Monday February 3 collecting from area residents until 4:00 p.m. Donors must meet health restrictions and be between 18 and 60. Lunch will be provided and donors should eat regular meals.
Dan Armbruster resigns as head cashier of First National Bank in Osceola. Dean Henricksen, former Five and a half year associate at The National Bank of Neligh, Neb., will take over Feb 1. Henricksen, Dana College graduate from Newman Grove, Neb., moves with wife Linda to Osceola to live on The Ridge. Armbruster will join Farmers State Bank in Aurora as managing officer.
Polk County celebrates 4 H Emphasis Week January 25 to February 1 with 358 members 61 leaders and 35 junior leaders. In 1968 4 H members completed 850 projects across 60 categories and the county fair showcased 1723 exhibits. Correction notes Janis Peterson assisted with a film shown at the Auxiliary meeting.
Mr and Mrs James B McBeth of Fort Collins Colorado announce the engagement of their daughter Linda Lee to Roger T Fuhrman son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Fuhrman of Osceola Mississippi The couple both attend Colorado State University Fort Collins Linda Lee majors in Speech pathology Roger Fuhrman majors in electrical sciences They are grandchildren of J B Heckman and plan a September wedding.
