Mayflower Millstones Placed in Hastings Museum
Worn millstones reputed to have come to the United States on the Mayflower have been put on display at the Hastings museum. The stones were long kept by the McConnell family of Kearney and once served in an old Philadelphia mill near the center of colonial activity. They ground much meal for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and remained in use during the Civil War era. B J Olson of Kearney arranged for the stones to be transferred to the museum after learning of their history from the McConnells.
