An oak forest lies buried in the Valley of the Fulda near Rosenburg Hesse Cassel Germany at six to nine feet depth. The trees are well preserved though black from aged water. A Baumbach specimen measured 59 feet long nearly five feet diameter at the root and 38 inches at the top. Berlin museum and Marburg museum consider using the timber for furniture. It is unclear if the oaks are a living species or extinct.
