Farm and Home Day Draws 390 Despite Cold Weather
About 390 attended the Annual Farm and Home Day Program on Tuesday. The morning featured a men’s film and discussions at the Muse Theatre while women viewed slides and a demonstration at the Methodist Church basement. Lunch followed in the church basement with barbecue sandwiches, potato chips, pickles, ice cream, and coffee. Margaret Stahly gave a trip report and the Walter Jones family received the Conservation Picture Award.

Weather dips to subzero as week opens with cold spell
A local observer logged 12 degrees below zero Tuesday morning with a high of 2 degrees. By Wednesday morning readings were 6 degrees below normal. A forecast calls for increasing clouds and light snow tonight and tomorrow with slightly warmer tonight but continuing cold tomorrow. Last week saw readings above normal, peaking at 59 degrees.

Polk County residents bought 38125 in Series E and H savings bonds last month, totaling 566488 for 75.1 percent of the county goal. Nebraska nationwide purchases reached 87219822 dollars at 81.2 percent of the annual goal, with per capita figures high in the county and statewide averages around 24 to 61.80 dollars.

The Polk County Basketball Tournament will be held at Polk High School Auditorium on February 2 and 3 with three sessions. Reserve games start Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and a varsity session follows.
