Polk County extension notes a busy January with 37 meetings on topics from soils to furniture refinishing. A 4 H council elected officers and planned a Polk County 4H camp at Covenant Cedars in June. A noxious weed authority logged 712 service types and sprayed over 700 miles of county roads. The column also previews Farm and Home Day on February 6 and recounts a 19th century Grasshopper Convention addressing locust threats and federal aid proposals.
