Hastings Re-Elected Leader Of Osceola Community Club
Jay Hastings was re elected head of the Osceola Community Club with Dr A A Wurtz as vice president at the annual meeting in the Gold Fields basement Thursday evening. Hastings guided membership to about 100 and a treasury near several hundred dollars despite dues cuts and a Depression era era economy. The club maintained bi wealth functions and a harmonious program, earning praise as a large and aggressive civic group for a town of its size. Following the meeting members enjoyed an oyster supper.

Coach Gilbert's Osceola basketball team won two games last week. They edged Seward 17 to 16 on Wednesday, led 14 to 5 at halftime, then held on for the narrow victory as Seward rallied. Friday they beat Clarks 25 to 19 on the local court, with Ralph DeLand scoring seven and Jackson hitting three in the second quarter. The second team won 19 to 2. The squad faces Stromsburg this week and seeks strong fan support.

Obituary of John M. Jaax Sr. dies at 76 in Nebraska
Funeral services were held Friday at St. Andrews Catholic Church for John M. Jaax Sr. born August 24 1857 in Rhineland Prussia died January 9 at his valley home. He immigrated in 1870 with his parents and later married Martha Glatzer in 1879. Survived by seven of ten children Cecilia Gabriel Lucy Bernt Cristina Henggler John Jaax Jr Bert William Frank, eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a longtime Catholic and former church officer at St. Andrews.

Oil truck crash injures two near Stromsburg
Neil McNaught and Donald Wright, both of Polk, were seriously hurt when an oil truck overturned near the L. Widga farm two miles west of Stromsburg after a tire failure. McNaught, in charge of a Polk Standard Oil bulk station, was rushed to a York hospital but expected to recover. Wright suffered a badly broken arm and other injuries.
