Marguerite Jenn Returns After Eight Years in France
Miss Marguerite Jenn arrives in Osceola Saturday after nearly eight years abroad. She left in August 1938 for Mulhouse near Paris where she lived with her father and endured village bombings before liberation. She later moved to Paris and sailed home December 31, arriving January 1 in New York. hosts Mr and Mrs W S Heitzman hosted neighbors this week in her honor.

Special Dairy Assn Annual Meeting in Stromsburg
Polk County Livestock Improvement Association held its annual meeting at Scott's Hall Stromsburg January 12 with about half the members present. The program featured inseminator experiences and director reports from other associations and benefits from Proven Sires and the American Dairy Association. Newly elected directors are Ansel Fredrickson Faul Swanson Lavelle Lamoree and Arthur Deeter. Breeding fee for 1946 is set at 6.00 with no annual dues and credits for members who paid the 2.50 assessment in 1945.

Mrs Bond, Osceola Couple, Dies at 70 in Wayland
Mrs George Bond 70 died suddenly Sunday afternoon at her Wayland Community home from a heart attack after preparing dinner for guests. Survived by her husband and three children Raymond Paul and Ruth Allison, all in the same community. Funeral at Wayland Church Tuesday afternoon with burial in Blue Ridge cemetery. The Bonds previously lived in south Osceola before moving to a farm residence.

Alvina Louise Struve born 1862 in Itzehoe Denmark came to America at nineteen. She married August Becker in Hastings Nebraska 1887 and later H M Coordes in Grand Island Nebraska. Funeral services were held at Kepner Funeral Home and interment at Polk cemetery with Rev Paul Lemke officiating.

The farm homes of Hjalmar Gustafson and County Commissioner Owen McClung were robbed last week in daylight while families were away. McClung’s loot included a fur coat jewelry linen and about twenty dollars. Gustafson’s included meat sugar vegetables and several radio tubes. Sheriff Peterson investigated.

Bulldogs Sweep Shelby 53 20 in Lopsided Rim

Officials warn Nebraska reports 130 diphtheria cases this year and note the disease peaks in autumn and winter. The toxoid vaccine is safe and nearly 100 percent effective, with protection recommended for children aged 6 to 12 months and all siblings.
