Osceola highlights include visitors from Lincoln Madison and Walnut reported visits by Monson Wo Mickey Dille and others. Social events feature an Odd Fellows Rebekahs installation a large at home for Mrs Fliesbach and a cheerful supper honoring Bertha Stull amid illness and family updates.
George Englehardt sent one car of corn and one car of oats to Julesburg Colorado last week. Mrs Bucknlett returns to Osceola Jest from Grind Island where she had stayed since December first. Alex Shank left Polk county for Florence Colorado around December 1 and died near Beulah. The funeral was held Tuesday at Beulah. Prof Dea Aldhypndi gave two entertainments at the house last week. The sugar factory may rely on beets for contracts next year as suggested by the Grand Island Independent. The Hall county beet acreage is expected to rise next season and contracts may be secured.
A planned gathering honored George Engelhardt and his wife at their home four miles northwest of Odceols. About thirty five German friends attended, arriving around 11:30 bearing filled baskets. A bountiful dinner followed by games and amusements continued into the evening.
The camp fire program at the G A R Hall on Saturday night January 18 1896 includes opening song We Meet Again Boys a quartet prayer and introductory remarks by the Post Commander songs and readings about wartime incidents led by Comrade Mitchell Miss Grace Pratt and Miss Charlotte Saunders with topics Life and Escape from a Wrecked Steamer Women of 61 65 and What Chaplains Did in the War Rev Adams and others join in songs including Rally Round The Flag and Marching Through Georgia with voluntary speaking and singing finishing with closing quartet.
A large crowd gathered at the courthouse to honor retiring and incoming county officers. The event lacked a formal program, featuring games, socializing, speeches, and music. Chancellor Dean delivered the principal address praising past officials, while Mr. Malloy urged unity and voiced campaign sentiments. Refreshments and music accompanied the festivities.
A Jan 2 burglary attempt at P O Chindgren's store in Osceola broke the front door and damaged the safe. Thieves took small change from the till but failed to access the safe, leaving burnt paper and powder remnants. the motive and outcome remain unclear. Mr Chindgren learned of the incident last Thursday.
