Dr and Mrs Floyd L Rogers of Lincoln announce the engagement of their daughter Caroline to John Webster Mills son of Mr and Mrs M A Mills of Osceola Miss Rogers is a University of Nebraska graduate and member of Kappa Alpha Theta Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Miss Mills also graduated from the University of Nebraska He was a member of Innocents Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Alpha Epsilon and served as president He is now attending the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha
An Easter Seal Institute for Nebraska County Committees is announced by Oscar D. Mardis president of the Nebraska Society for Crippled Children. Robert N. Cox of the Easter Seal Division will present the 1954 program at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce on Thursday January 21 at noon. Attendees include representatives from Omaha Brainard Cedar Creek Tecumseh Lincoln Nebraska City Pawnee City Osceola Falls City Crete Gretna Seward Deshler and Blair. Mrs. D R Byers of Osceola is Polk County Chairman.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Schutt of Tekamah announce the birth of a baby girl born in December. The infant weighed eight pounds 12 ounces at birth.
An all day Farm and Home Day occurs Friday January 15 at the Osceola school auditorium and Methodist Church basement. Sponsored by the Osceola Chamber of Commerce Polk County Crop Improvement Association and Polk County Extension Service the event features lectures for men and women with a noon lunch served in the auditorium and a 2 30 pm irrigation talk. Guests include Ray Conrad J C Swinbank Dr J L George Orley Conkling Bob Roselle Doyle and Karl Lorech among others with programs in the auditorium for men and the church basement for women.

Polk County 4 Hers and parents gather at Osceola High School Auditorium on Saturday January 16 for Achievement Day. Event starts 11 30 am with a covered dish meal followed by games singing awards and a talk by Nebraska International Foreign Youth Exchange student Roger Richards who spent months on Swedish farms. Non 4 H members may attend the afternoon program to hear his experiences.
The 1954 Oldsmobile will be shown next week at the Johnson Chevrolet Company garage on Wednesday January 20th. Officials say the car was intended as a 1955 model but was completed early and produced this year with a lower body level, redesigned styling, larger windshield and other innovations.
Valley Livestock and Tractor Club met December 29 at the Cedric Fin cy home to reorganize and elect new officers. January 4, the club met at the Geo Geier home with six members present for the 4 year book and topics for the year. Reporter Rex Dake.
About sixty members and friends gathered at Ted Johnson home January 11 for a farewell to Mr and Mrs Gotfrid Larson and family. The Larsons lived in the district 25 years. Donnie and Susie will enter Osceola school with the new term. Gifts were given to the children and the Larsons. PTA met at the schoolhouse with class work and lunch served.
Osceola Chamber of Commerce names Ray Conrad as the next president with Martin Roberts as vice president and Fred Bond joining the board of directors. The group will hold the upcoming meeting under the new leadership.
Conrad becomes president succeeding Lloyd Green as head of the group. Roberts' predecessor was Jay McDonald and Bond succeeds Otto Brabec on the board. The new president will appoint committees soon and the full roster of chamber officers will be announced at that time.
Osceola high school music instructor John Adams announced that 24 Osceola students will join the Albion vocal clinic on Friday and Saturday January 15 and 16. Guest conductor Don Craig leads the event, with 15 to 20 schools and about 500 students expected in the massed chorus. Students travel by chartered bus.

Cox et al covering north 110 feet of Lot 2 and described parcel in Osceola, Jaanita May Mieran and husband to R R Urban for east one third of Lots 6 7 and 10 in East Addition Osceola, and Lawrence R. Cremeen and wife to J A Carlson for the west half of the southeast quarter in Polk County.
A county survey shows deposits in Polk County banks rose to 7,821,989 from 7,262,556 a year earlier, an increase of 559,433. Bank officials cite cautious buying and stronger Christmas activity, with more mortgages than a year ago, yet overall finances look improved rather than strained.

Polk County farmers are urged to sign and return 1954 farm plans and conservation practice listings to the ASC office before January 23 1954. The office opens weekdays 8 am to 5 pm. Wheat loan applications should be filed now for a No 1 grade rate of $2.30 per bushel with county committee certification by January 31 1954.
