Contracts set for Osceola school auditorium

Five bidders attended a Friday bid session for Osceola high school auditorium construction. The school board awarded contracts to Main Construction Rokahr Construction Co for 70 735 Electric Engineering Co for 3950 Fred ranting for 644 75 and McCook firm for plumbing and heating at 14 350 though no action was taken yet on that portion. Work is expected to begin when weather and material conditions permit.

Mueller Eveland wedding in Lincoln Nebraska

Former Polk County Teacher Dies at 82 in Fullerton

Mrs. W. H. Vaughn, a former Polk County schoolteacher, died early Friday morning December 27 at her Fullerton home at age 82. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 PM at Fuller ton Methodist Church with burial in Shelby cemetery. She leaves seven daughters and two sons.

Obituary of Mrs Melissa Sturdevant of Osceola

Mrs. Melissa E. Sturdevant born October 4 1863 in Racine Wisconsin died December 20 in Indianapolis Indiana at her daughter’s home. Survived by six of ten children and four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held December 24 in Osceola with burial in the Osceola cemetery.

Polk County Pioneer Eric Forslund Dies at 80 in Polk

Eric Forslund Polk County pioneer and first mayor of Polk died Friday evening after a brief illness. Born May 17 1866 in Sweden he immigrated to America in 1888 and lived in Stromsburg before returning to Polk and later Stromsburg to run markets and grocery. He left two daughters three grandchildren and one sister surviving.

Olson Sr. dies after long Polk County life and public service

Henry H Olson Sr born May 24 1884 in Polk County Nebraska moved to Hordville area in 1941 and attended Osceola Methodist Church before joining Methodist Church of Hordville. He died December 23 1946 at St Francis Hospital Grand Island at 62 and is mourned by Olga Olson his wife seven children two brothers and many relatives. Funeral at Hardville Methodist Church December 26 with Rev Nels Pearson. interment at Stromsburg cemetery.

The marriage of Alléne DeBaets and Francis Krumbach was solemnized at Sacred Heart Church Shelby at 9:00 pm on December 30. Rev John Kean officiated. The bride and groom wore formal attire with corsages, and relatives Margaret Krumbach and Albert Krumbach served as bridesmaid and best man respectively.

Turkey Day Draws Large Crowd in Shelby

Twenty live turkeys were dropped from planes over Shelby last Tuesday afternoon. The Shelby Commercial Club sponsored the event drawing a large crowd and providing thrills for spectators.
