Osceola business men announce a Spring Opening Week starting March 1 to showcase new 1926 styles and attract buyers. Local stocks will be complete with low prices and friendly service as retailers display windows and shelves filled with fresh goods. Record notices will highlight participating firms and wares during the week.
Polk County farmers cooperating with the County Agent report higher profits from hog lot sanitation. Hollis Delan near Osceola moved pigs to clean ground, eliminating costly illnesses and boosting weights. Results show stronger pork yields and $481 extra per 1925 crop for first group, funding new sows, fencing, and water/feed improvements.
Mrs Philip Luft and twins visited sister Mrs Rice Mace for the weekend. Mrs Glenn Willits returned home after a week with her daughter near Pelk who has been ill. Several local residents visited relatives and attended events, including teachers and students preparing a Riverside play and a party hosted by Mrs Harve McCormick.

William B Carson longtime Polk County rural mail carrier and Osceola resident died February 16 1926 after a long illness Born April 12 1863 in Bloomfield Town he arrived in Nebraska in 1873 married Eunice Jay in 1885 and leaves six sons two sisters eight grandchildren Funeral services were held February 17 at the family residence with burial in Osceola cemetery The community marked the loss with a nearly full town observed.
The Father and Son Banquet was held Tuesday evening at Scott Hall with more than two hundred fath ers and sons in attendance. Speeches by Frank Swanson and Darwin Thompson opened the program led by toastmaster J T Stanton. The event featured vocal solos, the All-Star Black Face Trio, and an address by Frank E. Eggerton. Local notices include deaths, retirements, and community updates from Stromsburg.
Route 4 reports Mrs Henry Zang and party visiting Beatrice for weekend with Dr and Mrs Ray Leibe. Relatives Mrs Susie Miller and George of Ashland Idaho stay with Lebels. Mrs Lillie Schal dies at 40 in Greenfield Indiana. Other guests include Mr and Mrs James McKeag and Bird City visitors.
Mrs. Margery Vender from Des Moines arrives to help at Hanson Style Shop millinery. Miss Ora Hamilton from Methodist Hospital Omaha travels after learning of sister Mrs. Albin Anderson illness. Bidawees host husbands at Legion Hall dinner. Delegates Alex McCormick and Mat Sterup attend state checker tournament in Lincoln then return.
The regular monthly Community Club gathering drew about sixty members and guests last Thursday evening. Supt Andrews and Messrs Heald and Smith presented acrobatic stunts, followed by a High School faculty one-act sketch When the Light Went Out. City Attorney Johnston spoke on finances. An oyster supper capped the event, and the next meeting is set for March 4 due to the Father and Son banquet on March 11.
Womans Extension Clubs led by Miss Muriel Smith plan rearranging their home kitchens after February lessons in Osceola. Two leaders from each club will apply improvements at home over the next weeks, with Miss Smith visiting monthly to assist.
Livestock shipments from Shelby to Omaha included hogs cattle and horses from multiple producers. Local residents and visitors traveled to Lincoln Grand Island Columbus and Omaha for business visits and family gatherings. Significant events include hospital patient recovery and community society meetings at the U B Church and Dorcas Society activities.
W Roy Van Hoosen filed for Sheriff on the Democratic ticket. Rolland Dahlin of Polk filed for commissioner from the southwest district. Miss Rachel Sward was reelected as teacher in Dist 47 at Swede Home. Eighth grade exams set for April 8 9 and May 15 8 4.
The Chanel will host an oyster supper on Monday night February 22 and present an entertainment titled Grandmother's Dream. Route 5 patrons mourn the death of faithful carrier Wm Carson with sympathy to the family. Weekend visitors Miss Kruse and Schafer stayed with Mrs. Alvin Merrick. Mrs. Frank Atkinson visited relatives. Mrs. Harold Jarmin travels near York County line. District 40 gets new wall paper. church roof reshingled. a fine noontime dinner was enjoyed. Missionary Society met with Mrs A E Dawes. minister was absent Sunday, A Merrick filled in.
The Record corrects its last week notice. The annual Father and Son banquet will be held at the Presbyterian Church this year. The date is March 11th.
Bob Schenk of Werman Nebraska has purchased A A Young’s Osceola meat business. The new owner, not a butcher, has placed Thur Peterson of Valley in charge as experienced cutter. Young departs after building a fine Osceola trade and plans for the future are undisclosed.
Methodist Ladies Aid meet with Mrs. Joe Peterson as chair Friday. Eastern Star Kensington with Mrs. J L Heald Tuesday. hostesses Mrs. Jack Steeple and Mrs. George Campbell. Woman’s Club met at the school house Monday. WCTU with Mrs. Joel Hans Wednesday. program honors Francis Willard’s birthday. Legion Auxiliary met Tuesday. Miss Kilma Johnston to host Rebecca Kensington Wednesday February 24 with hostesses Mrs. Nancy Hartman and Mrs. West Snider. P E B O entertained at Mrs. Fred Schuman’s home.
Skating rink manager Kelly released a large number of used roller skates at a nominal price to Osceola children. Enthusiasm ran high at a patriotic meeting at the Methodist Church sponsored by the Woman's Club. Aurora's Mr Eggerton gave a well received address. Ora Garretson welcomed a baby boy on February 16.
