Farmers deserve fair parity not 1952 wages says NFO president
Milton D. Marak, Polk County Nebraska, president of the National Farmers Organization, argues in a Dear Editor letter that farm parity is misrepresented by media and that farmers routinely receive far less than parity. He cites January USDA figures showing beef at 88 percent parity and hogs and eggs well below, with bread prices far higher than farm costs. He urges broadcasters to correct the record and warns thousands of farmers risk leaving the land as profits shrink.
