F A Newcome aged 57 of Valpariso Indiana died Tuesday morning of a heart attack. He was the father of Jim Newcome of Osceola and survived by his wife and a son in California. Funeral arrangements had not been set.
A three pound baby boy born to Mr and Mrs Larry Rein of Lincoln at a local hospital on Friday February 8th died several hours after birth. Mrs Rein is remembered here as Miss Jeanell Bowman.

The Polk and Merrick County Extension Services sponsor a Dairy Tour in Silver Creek on Tuesday February 19 meeting at 9 45 a m at the south side of Silver Creek High School. Stops include Bob Smith farm on pole barn construction silage upright silo milking, Floyd Frizzell farm on bulk tank installation grade A milking parlor and cattle feeding, and Joe Imm farm to view bulk tank installation and pipe line milking setup with stanchion discussion. Lunch at City Hall served by the Silver Creek Methodist Church followed by 1 00 p m talks by Phil Cole on feeding and bulk tank use. Programs to end about 3 00 p m with urged attendance by all dairymen.
Osceola District tourney pairings placed St. Mary David City and Seward Concordia in opposite brackets. Opening games February 25 feature Polk vs Rising City and Stromsburg vs Valparaiso at 7 p.m. Second day has St. Marys of DC vs Osceola then Clarkes against Seward Concordia. Four Square Dance clubs plan a festival in Columbus with Harold Bausch calling at 8:30 p m on May 3 at the National Guard Armory. The event includes a demonstration during intermission and spectator tickets will be sold. Bausch recently toured Iowa Missouri and Kansas.
Osceola school band schedules a mid winter public concert at the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening February 20 at 8:00 p m directed by Fred Allen. The program features Manhattan Beach March American Weekend Knightsbridge March Hymn of Freedom Citadel Overture The Sparrow Bush American Railroader Minka Minka Trumpet Trio with Steve Sigler Jean Hofbauer Mervin Ransom and others. Tone Poems Clarinet Choir includes Judy Zentz Joyce Roberts Judy Koehler Joan Triba Marlene Meister Carol Scherer.
Nebraska Safety Patrol reports nine traffic fatalities in January 1957, the second lowest month for deaths in records. The agency urges continued caution on highways as it compares 1956 causes with the January tally.

Mr and Mrs Ted Cannon of Silver Creek announce La Tona Rae born Friday February 8 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital weighing seven pounds twelve ounces. Polk wins the county tourney at Osceola beating Osceola 50 to 47 in the final after a see-saw affair. Polk previously defeated Shelby 54 to 47 and broke a 1950 title drought. Osceola beat Stromsburg 64-41, while Stromsburg edged Polk 44-33 in the second team games. final standings crowned Polk as county champion.

Mina Buchta, 96, of Best Manor Osceola, received the 1956 Midwest Good Neighbor of the Year from KFAB. Nominated by Mrs. S. J. Cadwell, she is lauded for community service, dispatching aid via two telephones, helping deliver over 100 babies, caring for the sick, and steadfast neighborliness. She will be 97 on August 1 and has four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The three hour and eight minute film War and Peace opens at The Muse Theatre Osceola for four days starting Sunday with a 2:30 matinee and an evening show. Tickets cost 65 cents and 25 cents for students are not available. Audrey Hepburn Henry Fonda and Mel Ferrer star in the lead roles.
