Selective Service Closes Columbus Office in Nebraska

The selective service system has closed its Columbus area office and transferred all records to the Lincoln state office. Questions should be directed to the State Director at the Nebraska State Headquarters in Lincoln. Young men are not required to register at present.

Scout Units Earn National President's Awards in Osceola

Cub Scout Pack 162 led by David Nordstrom and Boy Scout Troop 162 under Norman Hofbauer earned National President's awards for leadership camping and membership. The Through the Years Museum houses Mechling glassware and English Royal Worcester porcelain with Favrille Tiffany glass on display. The Society is open daily 8 am to 5 pm and Sundays 1 30 to 5 pm with no admission charge.

Dry 1975 Weather Shows Low Rainfall Across Year

Official observers Tom Johnson and Viola Wieseman report a drought year with only four months above normal rainfall and total precipitation 0.96 inch above normal. The coldest day was February 9 at 24 degrees and the peak heat occurred August 12 at 100 degrees.

SUN Opens Nine Courses for College At Home Credit

The University of Nebraska SUN program offers nine multimedia courses for spring 1976 with no admissions tests. Enrollment is open statewide via educational TV, mailed materials, home kits, and a toll free line. Courses include Sketching Writing Economics Learning Disabilities and more.

Grapplers Split Road Duals As Osceola Wins Twice

Osceola high wrestling edged David City 48 to 12 with forfeits shaping the score in five weights. Osceola defeated Stromsburg 38 to 23 behind pins from Runquist and Clifford and a late rally by Duane Tonniges. Osceola junior high also posted two wins, beating David City 51 to 10 and Stromsburg 12 to 10 with several decisive pins and decisions.

Cost Sharing Conservation Program Planned For 76

Polk County ACP development group will meet at the ASCS office on Tuesday morning February 10 to plan the 1976 conservation cost sharing program. Eugene Sterup projects a process including the ASC county committee SCS agronomist county extension agent state forester and NRC rep to select eligible practices. The program aims to conserve soil and water resources, encouraging farmers to act with federal support to protect resources for the future.

Death notices for Ida Coffin and Robert Whiting

Mrs Ida Coffin 90 formerly of Columbus died Saturday at Good Samaritan Center Osceola with services at McKown Funeral Chapel Columbus and burial Roselawn Cemetery. Survivors include four sons and two daughters. Robert Whiting 54 died Saturday in Marshalltown with military graveside services at Rose Hill Albion. survivors include wife a daughter three grandchildren and two sisters.

Car Crash Injures Stromsburg Women

Sheriff reports Mrs Shirley J Buller and daughter Teresa injured in a Monday afternoon Jan 26 one car wreck on highway 81 three miles north of Stromsburg. Vehicle totaled and both were treated at Annie Jeffrey Hospital for bruises and possible back injuries.

Johansen Lad Wins District Free Throw Trophy

Andy Johansen twelve year old son of the Bill Johansens won first place in his division at the Knights of Columbus district free throw contest held at David City Aquinas High School Sunday afternoon. His next contest is regional in Wahoo on Sunday February 22. Osceola contestant Danny Hayes placed second in the 13 year old division with parents Mr and Mrs Don Hayes.
