Mrs Nuquist Appointed To Board Council

Governor Cochran appointed Mrs Maude E Nuquist of Osceola to the Nebraska state board of control for a six year term beginning July 1 with a 4000 dollar salary per year. The nomination was confirmed by the state legislature, restoring a woman to the previously all male board.

Obituary of Arthur Nathaniel Johnson

Arthur Nathaniel Johnson born February 23 1886 in Stromsburg Nebraska grew to manhood on his parents farm southwest of Swede Home. He worked in lumber mercantile and banking before becoming a truck jobber. He died January 26 1937 in Grand Island age 50 years 11 months and 2 days leaving wife Mabel and four children. Funeral services were held in Central City and Osceola with interment in Osceola cemetery.

Aug Lund Pioneer of Osceola Passes After Ill Health

Swedish born Pehrs August Lund 1858 died February 1 while walking to town near Osceola Nebraska. He married Mary Linquist in 1892 and they had five children Nora Nora Hiatt Leonard and Walter Lund are among his offspring. Funeral services were held February 2 at 2 00 pm in Kepner Chapel with Rev Monkman. burial in Osceola cemetery.

Pioneer Polk County Woman Dies at 82

Polk County pioneer Mrs August Steelquist died at home in Polk at age 82 after a fall led to pneumonia. She is survived by a son and two daughters.

Greens Chapel groups plan meetings and community dinner

Greens Chapel Lions and Ladies Aid set meetings for February 11 with a Friday community dinner planned by the Ladies Aid. Local residents, visitors and notably the Polk County Rural Electrification Project delegation attended the Nebraska Association Public Power Districts convention in Lincoln, with loan papers anticipated within about 20 days.

Gadeke. Mrs. Lee Graham died in Silver Creek after a long local life. Local families shared dinners and visits. trips include Rayner Carlson group driving to Los Angeles for a month. Osceola's new playhouse The Muse starts operations tonight after six weeks of work by a crew led by Roy Cox. Mr Klein confirms performances will go on as advertised with daily shows and a weekend matinee at reduced prices, transforming the old venue.

Carl R. Gray Honored for Support of 4-H and Agriculture

Lincoln ceremony honors Carl R. Gray president of the Union Pacific for decades of scholarships to Nebraska 4-H club members and Smith-Hughes vocational students. Since 1921 the railroad has funded 100 rewards annually, with 663 total scholarships awarded and 451 to 4-H members, 285 used, 122 now farmers, 58 students at the college of agriculture.
