Car-truck crash kills C Augustine Jr in Shelby area
A car-truck collision two miles east of Shelby at 7 p.m. Saturday killed Charles Augustine Jr., 21, of Rising City. Ronald Ziemba, 21, Osceola, suffered facial injuries and was hospitalized. Wayne Rice, 52, of Waco, drove the cattle truck involved. Augustine leaves a wife and two children.

After 10 port calls in seven countries the Saratoga arrived at Mayport Fla where crewmen will spend the holidays before sailing to Philadelphia for overhaul.

City Hall steel frame rising as weather delays cladding
The new storage building at City Hall has its steel frame erected but Christmas break and bad weather push back the metal skin installation. City equipment sits in the space under an exposed roof. Polk County SWCC will meet December 27 at 8 p.m. in the Osceola office. Immigration and Naturalization Service warns aliens to report addresses soon, with January set as the reporting period.
