Mr and Mrs Henry Smith entertained the Clear Creek Extension Club members and their husbands at a Sunday Christmas party at their home. Msgr Kean attended. Prizes went to Mike Riesdorff and Mrs Wm Jaux for high, Clarence Gondring er and Mrs Arthur Johansen for low. Gifts exchanged and secret sisters revealed. Lunch followed. January meeting set for Mrs Roy Gross nicklaus home.
Market notes show eggs varying with grades and counts. Listings include medium eggs at 24 and 20 undergrade, straight run at 23, cream at 60, and hens priced at 10.
David Harry Wilson 77 of Clarks died Christmas Eve at York hospital. Survivors include five children including Mrs Leslie Adelson of Polk county. Funeral services will be at the Methodist Church in Clarks Friday afternoon with interment in Osceola cemetery.
Johnny Wayne Augustine five months old son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Augustine died at Children's Memorial Hospital Omaha on Christmas Day. Surviving parents and sister Marla. Funeral held at St Vincent Church at ten am Thursday December 27 with interment in Shelby cemetery.
The Osceola firemen’s regular monthly meeting is set for Thursday evening December 27. The gathering will cover standard departmental matters and safety updates.
Mr and Mrs Henry Renquist of Benedict and Mr and Mrs Lyle Colson of Omaha were entertained in the Clyde Courtney home Sunday afternoon.

The Polk County Agriculture Society Fair Board met December 19 at the courthouse. New officers elected for 1957 are Henry Galus president Homer Ingalls vice president Ray Conrad secretary manager Carleton Anderson treasurer Orley Conkling Lloyd Kroger and Walter Berck named to the board for two years. Other members include Effie Fernandez Wm Campain Maurice Newcomer Albert Inselman Elgin Tenniges. The group discussed plans for a bigger and better fair and invites suggestions through board members.
A hospital staff Christmas party was held at the Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital last Friday afternoon. Nearly all personnel attended a short gathering at 2 30 p m, exchanged gifts, and enjoyed coffee and cake after singing carols. Hospital board members Martin S Jones and Perry N Sapp also attended the event.
A petition urges a reduced rate for goods hauled by truckers on irregular routes. Larger truckers may oppose, as the change would allow irregular route operators to win business from larger firms that use regular schedules and fixed routes.
Parents and students listen as Ivar Oberg, president of the school board, outlines features of the new equipment in the second grade room at the C. W. vef rey M. D. grade school building. The facility is described as among the most modern in the state section.
Richard Triba son of Mr and Mrs Henry Triba arrived Saturday from Fort Ord California to spend holidays with his parents and sisters. He expects to leave for overseas duty in Germany on completion of his furlough. LeRoy Dinges arriving from Camp Chaffee Arkansas for a visit with his mother Mrs Rose Dinges and family. Lt Ivann er and Mrs ller and children arrived from Tokyo Japan for leave with the Ben Schmaker and Roysler families. After his leave the Lieutenant will report to a camp in Virginia for next assignment. Jerry Johansen arrived Sunday for a 12 day furlough from Fort Sill Oklahoma to visit his parents and family. AN Raymond Watts arrived from North Island Naval Air Station San Diego on an 11 day leave with his parents. John Bernt, from Aberdeen Proving Grounds Maryland, spending a 15 day furlough with his parents in Osceola.
Osceola high school basketball remained undefeated with a 49 to 35 win over Silver Creek on Friday night at home. Kuhnel and Swanson led Osceola with 18 and 11 points as the team outscored Silver Creek 19 to 9 in the final quarter to pull away. The B team won 31 to 27 with Huggler leading 9 points.
Orval Eikenhorst of Osceola won an all expenses paid trip for two to the Rose Bowl game in a year long Rain Chief irrigation equipment dealers contest. The winners depart Grand Island December 26 via United Air Lines and return January 4 after viewing the Rose Bowl and sightseeing in Los Angeles San Diego and Tijuana Mexico.

Osceola Chapter PEO meets with Mrs. W Norton on Wednesday January 2.
The Home Lighting contest judging by the Osceola Chamber lists three winners in order A. E. McVeigh first W. F. Monson second M. R. Anderson third. Prizes are 15 10 and 5 dollars with checks mailed soon. Honorable mentions include Jay McDonald Thos Hofbauer Er C Schott Alex Mills W W Norton M A Mills Ray Sedlak August Senn Leonard Mrkvicka and Don Byers.
Carl G Swanson of Omaha is named Public Education Director for the Nebraska Division of the American Cancer Society. A former Nebraska State Treasurer and nine year executive secretary of the Nebraska Bankers Association, Swanson is noted for wide state recognition and ties to many Nebraskans. His experience will aid the statewide Cancer Education Program.
Covenant Church hosts a post Christmas festival of music Friday December 30 at 7 30 p m featuring Christmas numbers such as When The Sun Had Sunk To Rest Old English Noel As Joseph Was A Walking and There Were Shepherds A Christmas Carol From Lapland and All Hail The Joyful Morn A Youth Quartet and Male Quartet Women s Trio and solo numbers also performed under director Wilbur Olson with organist Mrs Orson Hanson Pastor Cecil Johnson delivers welcome remarks in Wilson

Ralph Heald of Banning California died suddenly of a heart attack on November 18. His wife Clara survives. Interment was at Sunny Slope cemetery in Banning. Heald formerly lived in Osceola many years ago.
Nativity scenes win top in the home light contest with Arthur and McVeighs earning first place and a Methodist Church display also praised. Linda Kinzli near Duncan is recovering from injuries after a 60 foot fall while felling cottonwood trees. Jack Malek plans a big New Year’s Eve party at the Legion Club with noise makers and gifts for attendees.
