Tiemann braces for sales tax exemptions in 1967 Nebraska plan
Governor-elect Norbert T. Tiemann signals a cautious stance on sales tax exemptions, aiming to minimize exemptions to keep a strong tax base. He notes Nebraskans rejected the first income tax act and wiped out property tax, and says any tax system may include income or sales tax with open-ended rates. Tiemann plans to announce many executive appointments before Jan. 5 and names C. Howard West as aeronautics director and James W. Monroe as head of the Nebraska Resources Division. both praised as capable. He also notes the need to align sales tax rates with neighboring states and the potential one-month collection window after passage.
