Osceola Mourns Grant T. Ray Former Mayor and Biz Leader
Grant T. Ray 78 prominent Osceola businessman and former mayor died Friday at St. Francis Hospital after a heart attack. He helped shape civic life, served on the school and auditorium boards, and was the oldest Mason in town. Survived by three sons Glenn Donald Allen and one brother Albert. Funeral Monday at the Methodist Church with Masonic service.

One Killed Four Injured In Ice Bridge Collision
A six-vehicle wreck on the icy south end of the Loup river bridge near Columbus left one dead and four others injured. Lillian Jones 39 of Columbus died from a broken neck and multiple injuries after her car driven by Russell Blevins skidded on icy pavement. The crash involved cars driven by Leo Schmit Bellwood A W Kummer coroner said several others were hurt including Mrs Schmit and Mrs Leo Janicek. Bucklin Babka Kern Pfister and Pfister’s passenger Gene Vergler were less injured. Jones funeral services were set for 10 am Wednesday at Gass chapel with Rev Albert Limacher officiating. Jones was born 1907 in Shelby and survived by four children and relatives. Blevins, Schmit, Janicek and Pfister were treated at St. Mary’s hospital.

Polio Case Reported In Douglas County
A four year old, Claire Huggler, child of Mr. and Mrs. Christy Huggler, was taken ill with polio and is under treatment at Douglas County Hospital, described as doing satisfactorily. Six year old Carol Hanson, daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Leonard Hanson, was rushed to the same hospital in Omaha with meningitis. Mrs. Hanson stayed with the child while Mr. Hanson returned home. Doctors call Carol’s case serious but improving under care.
