Richard Shugrue notes most fines are waived at arrest, and overall revenue this year surpasses last year by about 750000 dollars.

Nebraska Tax Changes Cut Fuel Fees and Reassign Duties

About $300000 this year has come from abandoning 37 ports of entry that taxed fuel. 150 workers were employed at those ports, while 12 patrol members now enforce the new law. Some 3500 trucking firms report monthly fuel usage and pay taxes, increasing traffic but allowing tax credits for unused fuel. Richardson County leads in fines, with nearly $10000 since April, followed by Thayer County. The 1961 recount law test arises as Fred Potman seeks a statewide recount after an 18 vote loss in the first district senate race. Legislative action on recounts is pending when lawmakers convene January 5.
