Joseph McClain eight year old son of T Sgt and Mrs B J McClain of Vandenberg AFB California was selected for the Fresh man League Football All Star team. He played on offense and defense for the Steelers in the eight to ten year old division with over 200 boys in the league and the All Star game held December 8. He is the grandson of Mrs Helen Gabriel and nephew of the Donald Gabriels.
The Soil Conservation Service urges Polk County to join a nationwide Great Plow Up with caution. Marginal steep lands now in grasses risk erosion unless contour farming terracing and minimum tillage are used as cropland returns. The service offers priority planning and measures to protect soils while the Richard Howe family of Columbus visited relatives here Sunday.
Local families hosted and visited throughout Sunday and weekend gatherings. Dinners and birthday celebrations spanned York Osceola Lincoln Central City Stromsburg and Benedict with relatives from multiple towns, including Burke Kerr and Koehler families, plus Farmland meeting attendance in Kansas City.
A trio of thanks from Laura Hendrickson Carl Allinder and Connie Pat Lux express gratitude for hospital visits cards gifts flowers and prayers. They specifically thank Dr Davis nurses and Pastor Nordstrom for care and support at Annie Jeffrey Hospital.
Mrs Kathleen Bender Sara and Bill visited Mrs Sara OBrien Sunday at the Heritage Home in Geneva. Mrs Eugene Sterup and Mrs Harold Davis attended the funeral of Mrs Raymond Dey in York. The Douglas Wells family of Lincoln were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Harry Brazee. The Jim Brazees of Pender, Burt Brazees of Columbus and Glen Brazees of Lincoln have been recent visitors. Mrs Gotfrid Larson attended the 25th anniversary celebration of Mr and Mrs Elmer Rudeen at St Joseph hall near Columbus. Mr and Mrs Stanley Braithwait of Kingman Ariz were among the guests. Mrs Stanley Van Hoosen left Wednesday by plane for Columbus Ga to be with her father L C Cottingham who is seriously ill. Pre Christmas dinner guests Sunday in the Gotfrid Larson home were the families of Don Larson Cheyenne Wyo Jim Larson Columbus and Larry Larson Osceola. Sgt Randolph Pollard his wife and daughter have arrived from spending 18 months in Germany. He has been discharged from the army and the family will be living with Mrs Pollard s parents the Wesley Jones for the present. Bud Heckman was in Auburn Wednesday to attend the funeral of a sister Verna Smith. He returned Monday after visiting relatives in Beatrice and Fairbury. Wednesday evening company in the Ron Beebe home were Mr and Mrs Oscar Jones. Sunday dinner guests in the Elmer Pehrson home were Mr and Mrs Chas Massie Mr and Mrs Ed Lewis and Mr and Mrs Carl Donelson of Stromsburg. In the afternoon the ladies attended the Christmas Cantata at the Methodist Church. Mrs Neva Liedloff of Alliance arrived Saturday for a holiday visit in the Dean Buffington home.
Osceola records list weekend guests from Scotia York Grand Island and Omaha. Local families attended Cantata at the Methodist Church and visits spanned Stromsburg Pierce Central City and Bradshaw with multiple relatives mentioned. Funeral attendance included Wesley Michener in Stromsburg.
