Osceola County Seat Debate Press Clash over Pledges

A Stromsburg letter argues pledges for a Court House fund are unenforceable if not paid voluntarily, cites Nebraska Supreme Court notes in Hotman v. Edaon Odly, and challenges Judge Good's views. Osceola Satisfactory To Us In Petition Drive

A Stromsburg delegation visited Polk Saturday evening with petitions to move the Pleasant Home precinct court house site from Osceola to Stromsburg. Signers were hard to obtain as petition circulators pressured locals, while several Polk business men refused and faced threats of boycotts. Influential Stromsburg-area farmers opposed the move.

Beebe Named Secretary of Nebraska Republican State Committee

H C Beebe of Polk County chosen secretary of the Republican State Central Committee and will open headquarters in Lincoln to direct the campaign. Beebe, known in political circles, has served as county attorney and on the state committee, with prior runs for railway commissioner and district committee roles. This marks the second time Polk County provides a committee secretary, following R G Douglas six years ago.

Marriage Happens at Swede Home In Swede Hotri¢ Osceola Groom Thelander

At 10 80 o clock Monday morning at the Swede parsonage the marriage of Misa Marie Crow to Emil Thelander took place with Rev. C A Sward officiating. A dinner followed at the bride’s parents’ home. The bride, educated at Osceola High School and a former Colorado teacher, becomes Mrs Thelander of Osceola. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs Chas Thelander, is assistant cashier at Osceola Bank. They plan a two week trip through Minnesota and will reside in Osceola after Oct 1. Also notes the new Polk County directory by J Lindlie Heald listing tax-payers with ages, locations and auto ownership.

Robinson Weeden Wedding at Robinson Home

Miss Algie Robinson and W Ray Weeden wed Monday evening in a quiet ceremony at the Robinson home conducted by Rev. Bryant Howe. Family and friends attended as Miss Josephine Starrett sang and roses with ferns decorated a bower. After a supper the couple left for Omaha then Sidney to establish a home after September 15. The bride, daughter of Dr and Mrs E L Robinson, taught in local schools and plans a happy future. The groom, formerly a local undertaker and now in Sidney with a furniture firm, has strong character and community ties. Out-of-town guests included relatives from Ithaca Osceola Kearney Lincoln Arch er Oakdale Geneva and Ord. Central City Republican.

At 12:30 am Sunday Mrs Hastings woke her husband Albert Hastings saying dogs kept her awake. He grabbed his six shooter and fired, smashing a large plate glass mirror after mistaking his own shadow for a intruder in the dim window light. The incident occurred in Silver Creek Sand.
